BOXING LOSES “SAINT” IN ROY VAN PUTTEN!

San Francisco, CA- In a week in which the “negatives” seemed to have the run of things, word out of Aruba was that Roy Van Putten had passed away. A long time World Boxing Council official, Roy was always a man of calm and reserve. I find it hard to believe that it was 13 years ago that I spent one week on the Caribbean island Aruba for the first ever WBC Medical Congress with Roy and his lovely wife Edith being our hosts. From time to time I would see him at different fights and or functions. Each time our paths crossed, Roy was always inviting me back to Aruba. And while the boxing world will mourn his passing, the world at large needs to know that a good man has left us!
