the boxing vs ufc worldwide section i dont get it. how do you read it?
The UFC has had a hard time trying to build a fan base in Mexico. And that’s a huge market.
Showtime said they have a greater % of Hispanics per capita watching their Strikeforce MMA then they do their boxing.
He’s taking the tests because of the Filipino people putting pressure on him.
The countries are listed with boxing to the left and the UFC to the right. For example, the Philippines is #1 popularity wise when it comes to boxing and Brazil when it comes to UFC.
They hardly showcase Mexican fighters on Showtime. Most of their top fights have been tied up in the supersix, Lucian Bute and Vic Darchinyan, plus the bantamweight tourney which only featured one Mexican.
Excellent analysis Pedro, Boxing vs MMA is a hot debate that stays in ‘scwabble territory’ in the absense of numbers. You have given the hard facts which offer a new level of understanding and generates some real talking points on both sides of the argument.
Kevin perry has an excellent point
Two questions. One, how did you come up with this list? Two, where the hell is Germany? Boxing is the highest rated sport in Germany which is Europe’s largest economy.

That struck me as odd at first as well but then I remembered that Wladimier Klitschko had a title defense in Germany last year that wasn’t even TELEVISED! It was shown on Internet broadcast or you were there, that’s it. There may have been some local German telecast I am unaware of but the thing was incredibly small, historically small by recent (say the past 25 years) TRUE HW Championship Contest standards… It shocked me!
If I had to go with my gut, I’d say that combat sports aren’t as popular over there as you (or even I) believe. I noticed that the UK was there and in big numbers, especially when you consider the population size compared to Germany… But again, going with my gut. In my opinion far more Brits are fanatical about the sport of Boxing than the Germans are. I base this on my past experiences of going to venues in America and seeing the Brit turnout compared to the German. I’ve seen lots of Brits, even at cards that don’t have a Brit on them. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a German.
I know that what I stated is HARDLY a scientific study. Like I said, it is just my gut and memory of the Klitschko contest last year. I found Germany’s absence on this list very odd as well. that being said, I know Pedro, I worked for him. His opinions are his opinions and as with anyone else (myself included), you can agree or disagree or whatever… But when it comes to hard facts, things you can drop on a table right in front of a person, things like this… He’s the best out there and nobody else is even close!
Trust me when I tell you, if he says that this is the list… THIS IS THE LIST!
