UFC 149 RESULTS FROM CANADA YIELD MAJOR UPSET!
San Francisco, CA– When the UFC inked Bellator Fighting Championships middleweight (185 lbs) champ Hector Lombard, people were raving above the brute strength and overall ability of Lombard (31-3-1). On Saturday night in Calgary, Canada, Lombard asserted himself very little before losing a deserved SD 3 to Tim Boetsch, now 16-4 and who has never lost in the UFC at 185. This fight had no luster, no killer insinct, nothing. Give Boetsch credit for coming in well prepared and winning via a “weird” SD 3 over Lombard with scores of 29-28 twice for Boetsch, while one judge had it 29-28, incredibly, for Lombard.
MAIN EVENT A ONE-SIDED FIGHT
Jose Aldo clearly beat Urijah Faber went the two fought at 145 (featherweight) lbs. Dropping down to bantamweight 135, Faber was taken apart for the interim UFC title by Brazil’s Renan Barao for all five rounds of the championship fight. The “hard leg” kicks Barao landed on Faber hurt Urijah’s lead left lead leg, much like Jose Aldo, another Brazilian did. A knee by Barao to the ribs in round two probably broke a rib or two, that and the hard leg kicks were the keys to victory. Renan is now 31-1, Faber declines to 26-6. Faber simply cannot beat the Brazilian style of fighting that both Aldo and Barao employ. Official scores were 49-46, 50-45, 49-46, all Barao, while I had it 50-45. Faber can’t beat the best guys out there, thus he should think about hanging them up.
