UFC 100 #8 SPOT IN PPV HISTORY! BROCK WILL BEAT MIKE TYSON!

July 27th, 2009 By RingTalk

LESNAR CAPABLE OF BEING “BILLION” DOLLAR ATHLETE

San Francisco, CA- With UFC 100 and Brock Lesnar nabbing 1.3 million homes on pay per view against Frank Mir a fortnight ago, all I can say is that is only the beginning for if Lesnar keeps on winning, he in time might become the first fighter to generate a billion dollars! That’s what I said, a billion US greenbacks. At one point and time, Gerry Cooney was looked at in a manner that would have made him the richest athlete alive, only he couldn’t beat Larry Holmes. In stunning fashion, Lesnar beat Frank Mir with a quick KO.

FEDOR A “STEPPING STONE” OR LARRY HOLMES?

Fedor Emilinenko is considered the best heavyweight in the MMA world. Fedor was this past Saturday set to battle Josh Barnett, but he flunked a steroid test and the California Commission wouldn’t allow it. When Vitor Belfort was announced as a sub, the Affliction promotion lost its steam. Besides, if Fedor would have fought Belfort and had a dismal PPV draw, Fedor would have to take “table scraps” from UFC President Dana White.

SHOULD LESNAR CONTINUE WINNING

Brock Lesnar is a 6′5m 265 lb. animal of Caucasian persuasion. If he were to keep on winning, say for a couple of years straight with White and the UFC promoting him, MMA as we know it will decimate the game of boxing as we know it. Although I don’t think it’s a cinch, lesnar does have the potential of being the biggest athlete money wise in history.

OTHER PPV NUMBERS

Floyd Mayweather-Oscar De La Hoya is numero uno with 2.4 million PPV buys. #2 was Evander Holyfield-Mike Tyson II with 1,960,000 homes in ‘97. Their initial encounter garnered 1.6 million buys. Tyson-Peter McNeely, Tyson’s get out of jail fight, 1.5 million tuned into this mismatch. #5 is Evander Holyfield-George Foreman in 1991 did 1.4 million buys as did Tyson-Frank Bruno of’96. Felix Trinidad-Oscar De La Hoya at 1.4 million in 1999. UFC 100 checks in with 1.3 million homes. #9 was Tyson-Ruddock II of 1991. 2008’s Manny Pacquiao-Oscar De La Hoya rounds out the top ten with 1.2 million buys.

ALL DEPENDS ON BROCK WINNING

America will soon either fall in love with Brock Lesnar, or tune in out of pure awe. If he keeps winning, Brock, with Lorenzo Fertitta’s connections and his pale complexion, will become the highest paid athlete in sports. In the world of MMA this isn’t an easy task by any means. But if there’s a guy that can do it, it’s Brock Lesnar.

COMMENTS

  1. Hey i might be wrong this fact i know i read it on yahoo or espn when they released what the fighters made for ufc 100 and it said brock made 400,000 or was it 4 000,000 someone please shine some light on what this guy is pulling down.

  2. The UFC 100 was a hot selling PPV card but the fighters made peanuts. Brock made less than 1 million and that’s a tiny slice of the pie.

  3. Brock made $400,000. All the fighters on that card combined made less than 2.5 million.

  4. I’ll take that tiny slice any day of the week. What a person can do with a million clams, have a clam bake (but keep a few together to multiply (invest) you will never eat hotdogs again……………

  5. UFC 100 was a great card was fulled with good fights.

I don’t know if it’s me.. but how is Brock passing steroids tests? I mean this is the same guy who walked out of an ESPN interview when the reporter interviewing him, mentioned the word steroid. Moreover, Brock is to too big for the heavyweight division. He looks like a bully pounding the little guy, not too good for my taste. I think that a guy with some speed who can avoid the ground can beat him. Rampage Jackson, Fedor, Pitbull, Machida.. Anderson Silva.. I not joking..Brock is too big and his leg would give up after two rounds and he won’t be able to move…then he would just be picked apart.

Brock fights are ugly to watch. Once he got on top of Frank Mir, with his massive bodyweight there was no way Frank could hold on. Ugly fight..

  6. If Brock ever fights, and beats Fedor, the skys the limit.

As a boxing fan its interesting the Mike Tyson and Oscar De La Hoya have seven of the top ten PPV numbers. Not surprising, but the fact that De La Hoya was 0-3 in his biggest money making fights is a little surprising. I wonder where the Bernard Hopkins- De La Hoya fight ranks. The guy could be 0-4!!!

  7. The UFC has a stranglehold on it’s fighters, that’s the reason why they get away with paying them so little. Unlike boxing, there are no rival promotors to compete with the UFC for top fighters. Pride in Japan was a big promotion who did pay much better than the UFC but they folded up. If the UFC gets rid of a fighter there are not many places for him to go. The smaller MMA promotions here in the USA have no money and they can’t pay much.

In boxing, top champions make good money on PPV shows, in the UFC their champions make a tiny fraction of the profits. It’s rare for a UFC champion to make a million in a PPV show.

  8. Alot of UFC fighters make more than there posted purses. Those numbers dont include any endorsement deals they get for wearing a sponsors brand (Tapout).

From what I heard Brock made close to 3 Million, him and some others get a cut of PPV’s. 3 million may not be Oscar or Floyd numbers but they also dont have to pay any money to promoters, lawyers or sanctioning fees most other boxers end up having to pay.
