Los Angeles, CA- Unfortunately Southern California boxing fans, specifically the Armenian community won’t get to see German based Armenian and ex-IBF middleweight (160 lbs) champion Arthur Abraham (31-0, 25 KOs) and former Olympic Bronze medalist and Flint, MI native Andre Dirrell in the first bout of stage two of Showtime’s Super Six 168 lb. tourney at Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage, CA this Saturday. The bout was pushed ahead to March 27th due to a back injury Dirrell sustained while training.

FIGHT GOES TO MOTOWN, VIC NOW HEADLINES!

Ironically the fight will now be held at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, thus giving Dirrell the home field advantage.  The co-feature has now been moved to the main event as Australian based Armenian Vic Darchinyan (33-2-1, 27 KOs) puts his WBC/WBA super flyweight (115) championship belts on the line against relatively inexperienced and untested Mexican Rodrigo Guererro (13-1-1, 9 KOs).  Saturday marks the fourth defense for the rugged slugger, whose first defeat was at the hands of Filipino boxer puncher Nonito Donaire (23-1, 15 KOs) who hit the jackpot on 7-7-07 with a one punch KO of the Armenian.

ENCORE MATCH IS LONG OVERDUE

A rematch is being discussed by their promoters for a rematch hopefully by the end of the year.  First he must try to dispose of Guererro who will be fighting in the US for the first time against by far his most dangerous opponent. Also on the card is unbeaten Australian puncher Leonardo Zappavigna (22-0, 15 KOs) against Venezualan veteran Fernando Angulo (22-6, 14 KOs) for the IBO lightweight (135) championship.  Zappavigna’s most impressive win was a lopsided decision victory over one-time IBF super featherweight (130) world champion Gary St.Clair (42-10-2, 18 Kos).
