MARK WAHLBERG JUST ONE MANNY PACQUIAO VICTIM

PACQUIAO SUED FOR FIGHT “FRAUD” IN TWO STATES!

God knows all, thus he allowed Manny to deceive people?

God allowed Manny Pacquiao to deceive people.

San Francisco, CA– The plot thickens as more people band together to sue Manny Pacquiao over his entering a ring Saturday with Floyd Mayweather with only one arm. His NOT telling anybody, most notably the governing Nevada State Athletic Commission, that he had a severely torn right (shoulder) rotator cuff muscle is criminal in my mind!

CHANCE OF VICTORY “SLIM & NONE”

Going in, most people not drinking the Pinoy’s Kool Aid realized that a finely tuned and in condition Manny Pacquiao, in other words at his absolute best, was in an uphill battle with Mayweather, considered the far more skilled of the pair. Like Don King said, “His chances are Slim & none, and Slim just left town.”

HOOKS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE WITH SHOULDER CUFF TEAR

An MRI taken a fortnight ago revealed to Team Pacquiao (led by Freddie Roach) the severe tear on the (rotator cuff muscle) right shoulder of the Filipino. Pacquiao, a southpaw (left hander) utilizes the right hand to jab and throw hooks, a punch that requires the shoulder to throw an arching roundhouse (sort of) punch.

MANNY PACQUIAO LEFT TWO OF THREE WEAPONS IN LOS ANGELES

Normally, Manny Pacquiao throws double, sometimes triple jabs. His right jab, even if used to set up a left cross or gauge distance, is something Pac did not have. The right hooks that he utilized with skill and power prior were not part of Manny’s arsenal Saturday night.

THAT LEAVES MANNY WITH ONE HAND/WEAPON

All Manny had at 100 % was the left cross. Do you think celeb Mark Wahlberg, who bet $250,000 on Manny Pacquiao with Sean Combs (aka Puff Daddy, P Diddy), do you think he would have wagered a quarter of a million dollars if he’d known of Pacquiao’s severely torn Rotator Cuff muscle? Can I get a resounding, “Hell No.”

THE HECTOR CAMACHO STORY PART 5

Hector "Macho Man" Camacho

CAMACHO & FIGHT THAT ALMOST DIDN’T HAPPEN!

San Francisco, CA– Although I will pen an epilog of sorts regarding the great fighter and entertainer Hector “Macho” Camacho who was shot and killed in 2012 in his native Puerto Rico, today I will chronicle the events surrounding a card in Carolina, Puerto Rico in November 1999. While Camacho was long past his peak, Jorge Vaca, as handsome a prizefighter as you could imagine, never really had a peak other than in 1987 beating undisputed World welterweight (147 lbs.) Lloyd Honeyghan in a fluke Lloyd avenged by KO.

HOTEL/CASINO FIRST CLASS & LADY FRIENDLY

We were all staying at a four-star hotel casino in San Juan. I had been there for two prolonged stays and would have two more weeks in San Juan doing the post fight editing and production in tiny but modern studio in San Juan. With taxis taking you everywhere, telling you where the “safe” parties were happening, you needed to know somebody that knows somebody. With beautiful clubs, entertainment both of music and flesh inside the casino, there was really little need to venture outside of these safe confines as everybody was saying that San Juan was dangerous, something I did not find out like Camacho.

SAW ARENA FIVE DAYS FROM FIGHT

Carolina, where the Camacho-Vaca fight took place November 27, 1999, is a suburb of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Back at the hotel after having walked the arena, we are five days out. Having been there for a week and having only seen Camacho once or twice and ever so briefly, I wondered if he was prepping for a fight or partying? For a long time a lot of us knew about Colombian Dust (Cocaine) and Camacho’s penchant for the white powder. That being fact, Hector didn’t look right and seeing Vaca was nothing but a punching bag with a catcher mitt face, the fight was the last thing on his mind.

MAYWEATHER-PACQUIAO JUST LIKE ALI FRAZIER

Manny Pacquiao- v. Floyd Mayweather

Manny Pacquiao- v. Floyd Mayweather

San Francisco, CA– If you want to picture the Manny PacquiaoFloyd Mayweather, look at the “Fight of The Century” between Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali on March 8, 1971. The reason I make this comparison is that unless Pacquiao can duplicate “Smokin’ Joe’s” work rate, there’s little chance of him winning Saturday night.
Pacquiao Smacks Floyd

Pacquiao Smacks Floyd

ALI BLUFFED BY FRAZIER’S FOLKS

When the Frazier-Ali I bout was proposed, Yank Durham, Joe Frazier’s shot caller, bluffed Ali’s manager Herbert Muhammad and told him that unless Ali agreed to a March 1971 fight, Joe was going to make him wait until 1973. Wanting again to be undisputed, the still WBC and Ring Magazine champ, Ali didn’t dislike Joe per se, but Frazier had what Ali felt was taken from him.

38 YEARS IS “ELDERLY” FOR RING GREATS

Floyd Connects From Long Range

Floyd Connects From Long Range

Seeing that was Frazier-Ali 1 went 15 rounds and this is 12, Pacquiao needs to open up a can of ass whip and test the conditioning and wherewithal of the now 38-year old Mayweather right away. Speaking of Ali, he was 38 like Floyd when Larry Holmes all but destroyed him. Another great Joe Louis, he too was slain at 38 by Rocky Marciano. That being said, Mayweather doesn’t look or box like any 38-year old before him.

A.B.C. WANTS FEDERAL PROBE OF AL HAYMON

Al "Big Al" Haymon

Al “Big Al” Haymon

San Francisco, CA– It was announced today, as parts of Baltimore still smolder and the new US Attorney General Loretta Lynch doesn’t have enough on her plate, the Dept. of Justice has been asked by Assn. of Boxing Commissions President Tim Lueckenhoff to look into boxing’s premier powerbroker Al Haymon.

A.B.C. ADMITS AGENCY IMPOTENTCY?

Quoting from the letter, Lueckenhoff states, “The ABC has no resources or authority to investigate further or to take action with respect to this. However, we can and do request that there is “reasonable cause to believe” that PBC/Heymon “engaged in a violation of this chapter” [15 U.S.C. 6301 et. seq.] and that 15 U.S.C. 6309 gives express authority to the United States Attorney General’s Office to investigate and to take action. We ask that you do so.”

ABC SAYS HAYMON “FLAUNTING ALI ACT”

Leuckenhoff continues, “Haymon and related companies make no attempt to hide that they operate in the dual capacities of promoter and manager. It was the Vice President of Operations “Haymon Boxing” which sat on the dais and participated in the announcement of the PBC series on NBC. No other promoter was present. Frankly Haymon seems to be flouting this breach of the Firewall provision of the Muhammad Ali Act.”

HECTOR CAMACHO STORY PART 3

Hector Camacho-Oscar De La Hoya

LIFE & DEATH OF THE “MACHO MAN”

San Francisco, CA– Looking back at the career of Hector Camacho, you can see that he fought of a lot of fringe contenders. Guys like Freddie Roach, Sal Lopez, Pat Lawlor, names such as that make up the majority of Hector’s prizefighting resume.

TABLOID TV AND THE RAGS ALL OVER HECTOR

With more critics then Carter has pills, Camacho although admired for his skill, was also a favorite of tabloid news outlets. When Camacho showed up the post fight press conference, Hector was in a zone. And I don’t mean a drug zone. The kid from Spanish Harlem had just went 12 rounds without taking a serious punch from Jose Luis Ramirez, who had previously knocked out Puerto Rican rival Edwin Rosario.

MADISON SQUARE GARDEN HAD SPLIT HOUSE

It was fitting that the fight take place in the Mecca of boxing Madison Square Garden and in front of a nearly all Puerto Rican crowd that was split down the middle. The younger Puerto Ricans, many of those born here in the United States were for the “Macho Man.” Old-school Puerto Ricans and those living on the island were backing Rosario.

THE HECTOR CAMACHO STORY PART I

Hector “Macho” Camacho

“MACHO MAN” SHOT TO DEATH

San Francisco, CA– Having been hit with a number of deaths of people close to me in 2012, I all but shutdown when Emanuel Steward took the count as Cancer snatched him that October. Now it’s November 25, 2012 and Hector Camacho was declared dead after being shot a few days prior in his native Puerto Rico.

GOLDEN GLOVE WIN NOTED NATIONALLY

With this being a 3 part piece, we will get into the murder of Camacho later. Instead I’ll go into my own memories of the man I first named, “The Harlem Heckler,” a moniker Hector thought was ultra cool. My first glimpse was of Camacho the amateur as he won the New York Golden Gloves championship in impressive fashion. A pure boxer with fast hands and feet with an incredible gift for gab unseen since Muhammad Ali.

VOTE: WILL FLOYD-PAC BE GREAT?

FIGHT WEEK IS HERE!

How good will Floyd-Pac be?

Floyd-Pac A Classic?

Las Vegas, NV– It’s just five days away. Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao will finally meet. All the hoopla about ticket prices, Mayweather’s convictions of Domestic Violence, all this outside of the ring stuff is getting more attention than the event. For the exorbitant ticket prices and $100 dollar PPV, it can’t just be good, it needs to be great. So that begs the question you are asked to vote on. Read more

MONDAY AM BOXING NOTEBOOK

WHO IS BADOU JACK ONE ASKS?

Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather

Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather

San Francisco, CA– With “The Fight” days away, the weekend prior to the mega event offered up one surprise in that Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) took the WBC 168 lb. strap from Anthony “Dog” Dirrell (27-1-1, 22 KOs) via Majority Decision 12. Simply put, the relatively unknown to some, a Black Swede forced the fight from the start until the end. Scores at ringside Hubert Minn 116-112, Rey Danseco 115-113 and Robert Hecko 114-114. As for Jack, a “work in progress,” he wants George Groves in the UK.

KLITSCHKO WINS AGAIN

Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) defended the World heavyweight title for the 19th time with a UD 12 over Bryant Jennings (19-1-1. 12 KOs) with the cards reading Max DeLuca 118-109, Steve Weisfeld 116-111, Robin Taylor 116-111. Giant Gypsy Tyson Fury is next as the fight goes to purse bids within 180 days…

CANCER KILLER PREVAILS

Now 29-1, 26 KOs, Daniel Jacobs, who has beaten Cancer, TKO 12 Caleb Truax (25-2-2, 15 KOs) in a WBA middleweight (160 lb.) contest (You thought “Triple G” was champ, right?)

YOU FEELING MAYWEATHER-PACQUIAO YET?

BIGGEST FIGHT IN HISTORY (SIGH) 8 DAYS AWAYFloyd-Mayweather-vs.-Manny-Pacquiao-fight

San Francisco, CA– After a jaunt around the Bay Area to talk boxing with purists, there is little chance of Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao doing anything other than breaking a number of financial records. Because at the end of the day this isn’t Ray Leonard-Roberto Duran I.

WHY IS THERE NO REAL FLOYD-MANNY BUZZ

Nobody seemed to be overly excited, not even slightly animated and on a scale of 1-10 the fight of the century (thus far) has not got the public striving for every word on the fight. Does that bode well for a anticipated 3.5 million PPV buys?

RESPONSE TO FIGHT IS QUEER

A lot of this has to do with Mayweather-Pacquiao being an event like the Grammy and Oscar awards rather than that of a recognized superfight. If you wanted to go, 500 tickets went on sale this week and reportedly were gone in 60 seconds.

FONFARA TKO CHAVEZ JR. TOPS BOXING RESULTS

CHAVEZ JR. GETS SPANKING FROM “NEW” DADDY

Chavez Whacked By Fonfara

Chavez Whacked By Fonfara

San Francisco, CA– Although Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has some ability, he cannot beat up bigger men as Andrzej Fonfara proved Saturday night when Fonfara from the start until the end, lit Chavez Jr. up like the White House Christmas Tree in a light heavyweight (special weight 172 lb.) contest at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, CA via Showtime.

“SON OF LEGEND” BEATEN UP BAD

Chavez’s only plus was Fonfara had a point taken for a “shoulder butt” by referee Jerry Cantu in the seventh. The Chavez Jr. low light for his devout Mexican fans was his whining to the referee because his own weight woes put him in with a natural bigger and obviously stronger guy.

LARRY MERCHANT PREDICTED UPSET

On “Ring Talk,” the Saturday edition, Larry Merchant picked Andrzej to upset Chavez Jr., taking into account the natural size (body mass) advantage Fonfara has and that he went the route with linear champ Adonis Stevenson in 2014. Post fight, the Hall of Famer said. “The fight went about the way I thought it would. At 160 he had a size advantage. What I can’t believe is that Jr. turned down a $10 million deal to fight Gennady Golovkin from Top Rank (Bob Arum).

AL HEYMON LOSES WITH CHAVEZ

Having cherry picked opponents for years, Chavez Jr., undisciplined, a middleweight (160) if he were semi-dedicated, had been as high as a rumored 215, before making 171 plus change Friday. Fonfara in the upset threw a wrench at a potential Chavez-Stevenson or any Chavez-Gennady Golovkin fight.

HBO HAS MATTHYSSE-PROVODNIKOV

HBO GOES UP AGAINST SHOWTIME

#2 Rated 140 lb. Lucas Matthysse

#2 Rated 140 lb. Lucas Matthysse

San Francisco, CALarry Merchant’s ex-employer, Home Box Office will Saturday air a live 140 lb. loser “leaves top five” bout between Lucas Matthysse (36-3, 34 KOs) and Ruslan Provodnikov.

MATTHYSSE FAVORED OVER “FACE” FIGHTER

Although I admire the grit and will of Provodnikov, the fact that Chris Algieri beat him is enough for me to think Lucas will trounce him. Seeing Ruslan (24-3, 17 KOs) is not afraid to “take a shot to throw a shot,” Lucas should batter him at will throughout.

CHAVEZ JR. TOPS SHOWTIME CARD

MEXICAN FANS ADORE JULIO JR.

Late Referee Toby Gibson & Chavez Jr.

Late Referee Toby Gibson & Slim Chavez Jr.

San Francisco, CA– When you talk Mexican boxing, the first name that comes up is that of Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. As the late Jack Fiske and I watched the elder Chavez’s American debut, already like 32-0, Sr. steamrolled our local fall guy Jerry Lewis under Bobby Chacon-Bazooka Limon III in December 1982, we were both not all that impressed.

FAST FORWARD 23 CALENDAR TURNS

Now the focus south of the border is on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who sits atop a Showtime card Saturday with Andrzej Fonfara (26-3-1, 18 KOs). Although they are of the same bloodline, Jr.’s in a bad spot having to follow a father who is considered one of the best in history.

LITTLE AMATEUR BACKGROUND LIKE DAD

And while his record was padded early on, Chavez Jr. was learning his craft “on the job” fighting as often as could on Top Rank cards. But here we are some seven years later and “The Kid” is at a “crossroads” fight career wise.

MEDIA DAY WITH FLOYD MAYWEATHER

VIDEO EXCLUSIVE BY RINGTALK

Las Vegas, NV-Yesterday an enthusiastic crowd of not only media, but a litany of fans awaited Floyd Mayweather’s arrival at Mayweather Boxing Club in the Chinatown section of Las Vegas. Zab Judah, David Hasselhoff and rapper Lil’ Kim also were in attendance.

Mayweather Media day

Mayweather Media day

Floyd’s grand arrival was roughly minutes after 4pm. He initially fielded questions for boxing writers in the outside tent on what was an extremely windy day in Sin City.

He then went inside the gym and did video and audio interviews with the various media outlets. As much criticism as the brash sports star gets, he obviously loves the media attention but made sure to try his best to give as many one on one interviews as time allowed. He also got down on the pads and did mitt work and well as other various exercises. Mayweather faces Manny Pacquiao in the biggest money fight in boxing history on May 2nd.
