FIGHTERS WHO LOSE TO PED USERS ARE BEING PUNISHED TWICE
Los Angeles, CA- Our editor Pedro Fernandez has recently refused to write about anything involving Shane Mosley, who admittedly used Performance Enhancing Drugs(PED’S). While Mosley never tested positive for a bout, he knowingly took them, lied about it, had Pedro’s press credentials pulled for the truth, this before years of his denying his intent to cheat and conceal such.
EVERYONE ELSE WAS SCARED OF SHANE & EX-WIFE!
Pedro’s stance was a source of my inspiration to write this story. Now just give this a thought. There have been a number of fighters on the losing end of decisions and knockouts within the last few years against fighters who have tested positive for PED’S. In one example cruiserweights Antonio Tarver and Lateef Kayode fought to a draw in June of last year.
This fight stuck out in my mind. Tarver failed the pre-fight drug test, testing positive for the steroid Drostolone. Tarver was punished with a fine of 2,500 as well as suspended by the California State Athletic Comission. An expert boxing analyst for Showtime Championship Boxing, as well as slated to be a US boxing analyst for the 2012 Beijing Olympics, subsequently lost those jobs amid the controversy and bad publicity. However my reason for writing this article is that this case is like many others. The fight result was changed to a “No Contest. This is simply unjust to the victims of this cheating to have to face a fighter with incredible advantages.
ATHLETIC COMMISSIONS “NOT DOING” NEARLY ENOUGH!
With this being the “hurt” business I believe athletic commissions have not gone far enough to discourage PED use. In this case Kayode is being punished twice. In essence with the fight being called a no decision, it’s like it never occurred. However this wasn’t Lateef Kayode’s doing, it was Tarver’s.
PED USERS SHOULD BE DISQUALIFIED
I think disqualifying fighters who cheat, whether it’s knowingly or not will send a clear message that fighters are professionals and they have a duty to know what substances they are putting in their body. Ignorance Read more
San Francisco, CA– Testosterone is the hormone that is at the center of the Steroid world. A man is said to have his “T” level decrease each year past the early 20s. If you mess with anabolic steroids or performance-enhancing drugs, in other words cheat, the body’s ability to produce and make testosterone is damaged to the extent where an athlete needs TRT or Testosterone Replacement Therapy. When I first got wind of this a few years back, I thought then what I think now, that this is nothing more than legalized cheating!
TESTOSTERONE & THE NUMBERS!
Whether it is MMA, boxing, baseball, horseshoes, it really doesn’t matter. If you intentionally ingest performance-enhancing drugs that turn out to be debilitating, I’m sorry for the onus is on you the cheater. The Ultimate Fighting Championships endorsed the concept of testosterone replacement therapy and the Nevada State Athletic Commission made a determination that a 6 to 1 testosterone ratio is acceptable. The United States Olympic Committee, they set the testosterone bar at 4 to 1, and again before I move on, Dana White, the UFC president was a major proponent of what he now calls ”legalized cheating.”

San Francisco, CA– The drama, the ebb and flow of the first three Juan Manuel Marquez-Manny Pacquiao fights were hard acts to follow. That being said, their fourth encounter Saturday night in Las Vegas was more exciting than any of the prior three. Pacquiao came out very aggressive and won the first two rounds with quantity and quality, using the right jab to set up the left cross.
PACQUIAO CRUISING UNTIL HE GOT PUT DOWN HARD
With Pacquiao surging, Marquez landed a beautiful right hand over the top in round three that dropped Manny like a deer shot with a high powered rifle. Getting up, Pacquiao tried to fight back, but for the most part was on the take. The right hand that felled Pacman was set up by a series of body shots, mainly left hands underneath. In round five, Marquez ate a left cross that knocked him off center to the point where his left glove touched the canvas, thus an official knockdown.

TWO YEARS “STEP IN RIGHT DIRECTION”
San Francisco, CA– Heavyweight boxer (13-4-1, 5 KOs) Ali Adams has been suspended for two years after testing positive for steroids. The Iraqi-born professional tested positive for Stanozolol following his four-round points loss to former Olympic champion Audley Harrison (28-5-2, 21 KOs) on May 26. )Harrison fights David Price (13-0, 11 KOs) next week. Harrison has no chance here unless Price is a total fraud!
THIS ALI NOT MUHAMMAD OR TERENCE ALI!
Oh yeah, Ali Adams is who we’re talking about and his use of an antiquated steroid in Stanozolol which according to the Brit’s “is banned at all times in sport, there is no reason for it to be found in an athlete’s system.” The banishment will expire June 13, 2014. As for picking out and using Adams as the British Steroid “Poster Boy,” they are singling out a guy that isn’t going anywhere. Wasn’t one of the big names, but had been in the press and of course this makes headlines all over Europe.

STEROIDS IN BOXING COULD PROVE FATAL TO NON-USER!
San Francisco, CA– My hometown baseball team, the San Francisco Giants were hanging on to first place in the National League West Division on the bat of Melky Cabrera. Acquired earlier this year from Kansas City, Cabrera who signed in 2005 as an amateur free agent with the New York Yankees was honored (sic) as the Most Valuable Player in the annual American League vs. National League All Star game where he shined with a two-run homer in going 2 for 3. Just one month later, Cabrera has been “suspended for 50 games” after testing positive for Testosterone, an anabolic steroid that is the heart of “Performance Enhancement Drugs.”CABRERA COULD HAVE NETTED $100 MILLION!
With no contract with the Giants past the end of the 2012 season, it was likely that Cabrera would have become a free agent and made him into a $20 million a year player. The Giants management, considered frugal when it comes to dishing out bucks for big names, was in a quagmire of sorts as Cabrera was hitting .346, one at bat short of qualifying for the NL batting title. Currently the NL hitting leader is Andrew McCutchen of the Pittsburgh Pirates who is hitting an astonishing .359. Believe it or not, Cabrera could end up winning the batting title, should McCutchen falter. But according to Major League Baseball rules, Melky “The Cheat” would have hitless at-bats added to his total until he has the minimum 502 at bats. In other words, Melky could still win the NL batting title!

TEXAS CITED ON JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ JR. & ALISTAIR OVEREEM
By Eric Dexheimer of Statesman.com
Note from Pedro Fernandez: This is a lengthy in depth article that shows how “lame” the Texas Athletic Commission is on boxing and MMA. It also illustrates that the Assn. of Boxing Commissions has the strength of sewing thread. The author, Eric Dexheimer certainly did his homework.
Three months ago, professional mixed martial arts fighter Alistair Overeem of the UFC appeared before the Nevada Athletic Commission. A charismatic heavyweight from Holland with a superhero build, he had been scheduled to fight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight title in Las Vegas in May.
But in early April, Overeem had failed a random drug test administered by Nevada regulators, which revealed that he had four times the testosterone of most healthy young men. High levels of the hormone — considered a controlled substance — are forbidden because it can artificially enhance athletic performance. Read more
GUYS AROUND VICTOR CONTE ARE TESTING POSITIVE
San Francisco, CA– There is little doubt today, that if you’re an athlete hooked up with Victor Conte, head of Sports Nutrition for Advanced Conditioning, formerly of BALCO Labs, then you tend to come under a great deal of scrutiny in regards to Performance Enhancing Drugs. Marion Jones, former Olympic gold medalist, went to jail for committing perjury regarding her steroid use. Barry Bonds, former San Francisco Giant and all-time Major League Baseball home run leader, was placed under house arrest regarding his not telling the truth under oath about steroids.BERTO HAD “TRACE ELEMENTS” OF “SUICIDAL STEROID”
Andre Berto, former world boxing champion, tested positive for steroids a fortnight ago, that’s why Josesito Lopez was called in at the last minute to take on and upset Victor Ortiz on Saturday night. The drug Nandrolene, or some “trace elements” of it were found in Berto’s system. This steroid stays the longest in a an athlete’s system and is akin to committing “athletic suicide” if you know you’re going to be tested as it can stay with you from 18 months to two years.
CONTE’S ONLY KNOWN BASEBALL CLIENT SUSPENDED!
Now another one of Conte’s clients, Marlon Byrd, formerly of the Chicago Cubs, now with the Boston Red Sox, has been suspended for 50 games for testing positive for steroid-related drugs. Now a lot of people say whether smoke there’s fire, but I disagree this time. Look, Conte worked with David Rodriguez, head case, steroid user, and undefeated heavyweight pretender. From that I have to tell you I think his heart is in the right place as he worked for free with Rodriguez for almost a month trying to get them cleaned up steroid wise, as well as mentoring David both physically and emotionally. After that experience, my impression was that David wasted Victor’s time and his manager Bob Spagnola’s money.

HBO GODFATHER WASN’T PULLING PUNCHES ON “RING TALK BOXING HOUR”
San Francisco, CA– The disclosure by the California State Athletic Commission that Antonio “Steroid Man” Tarver tested positive for illegal Steroids in his system for a June 2 fight on SHOWTIME, a network that he works for, brought forth a response from HBO’s Godfather Larry Merchant that was vintage Larry as he grabbed Tarver by the jugular and didn’t let go until he had spoken his mind. TARVER-KAYODE SHOWTIME “DRAW” TAINTED BY STEROID USE!
WOMEN USE IT FOR BREAST CANCER
Seeing Tarver (29-6-1, 18 KOs) isn’t suffering from Breast Cancer, the only other reason one can conclude from his use of this drug was to improve both his appearance and performance against the crude but unbeaten Lateef Kayode (18-0-1, 14 KOs) on a June 2nd Showtime card airing from Carson, CA, a fight myself and judge David Denkin (115-113) thought he won. Max Deluca went 115-113 for Tarver while Dave Moretti had it 114-114, which resulted in a draw that will soon be changed to a “No Contest.”

A LOOK AT VICTOR CONTE
San Francisco, CA– Having been on the Bay Area music as a native, and a guy who seen everybody from the Rolling Stones to Frank Sinatra and more, I know a little more than the average music fan. I consider this a preface for what I’m sure what I’m about to write about is going to irk some of you, while others think that I’ve hit a least a double were we playing baseball and not writing. That being the following story is the most prevalent subject in sports and boxing, that being “Drug Use.” And no I’m not talking about Cocaine, Heroin, and Meth (Speed), I’m on the subject of fighters using Performance Enhancing Drugs such as Steroids and the like.
A BASS PLAYER IS A WEIRD DUDE/CHICK
Most of the bass players that I’ve encountered were introverted. But Victor Conte, who had led bands prior to becoming part of Tower of Power in 1976, joining his cousin and guitar player Bruce Conte for one album, was the exact opposite of that notion of being “an introvert.” He can charm the media, and at the same time sell his top of the line SNAC.com (Sports Nutrition For Advanced Conditioning products in a manner that can pay four (at least) salaries and leave Victor smiling. As far his playing bass, having played drums and trombone in school, the bass player was always a “different” type guy.

DRUG TESTING STORY HAS MANY TENTACLES
San Francisco, CA– Having been messed with and misled by promoters and the like for a long time, the article I put up here yesterday was wrong, this according to MaxBoxing.com writer Gabriel Montoya. What Mr. Montoya stated in between near hysterical fits, was that Golden Boy Promotions served him with a “Cease and Desist” letter. The MaxBoxing.com writer says that he lost a job because of promotional pressure put on one of his employers.
TOUGH TO FIGURE OUT
I was under the impression that the article in the Examiner.com by Mark “Scoop” Malinowski was written in conjunction with Montoya. That appears not to be the case. According to Montoya, a guy that I don’t know, I should have called him first. In hindsight, he was correct. Montoya says that Malinowski ripped off his story and took it in a direction that was erroneous. In between Montoya’s rants and threats, I found it hard to decipher what he was trying to say. What I did get out of him was that people in the boxing world, mainly Golden Boy Promotions, have wreaked havoc that has cost him money and his being demoted at BoxingScene.com from an editorial position to that of a once a week writer. If that is the case, and Montoya adamantly says it is, that’s a tough price to pay for his being forthright.

NEW SCRIBE TALKS STEROIDS IN BOXING
Manchester, UK– Two large let downs occurred in both the sport and business of boxing when two potentially great rematches from last year were cancelled. The story started when IBF-WBA jr. welterweight (140 lbs) champion Lamont Peterson (30-1-1, 15 KOs) copped to having taken Performance Enhancing Drugs leading up to the second fight against ex-champion Amir Khan (26-1, 16 KOS) set for last week.
SOME QUESTION THE FIRST FIGHT
Lamont then went on to say that he used a Steroid (Testosterone) prior to their first fight in December 2011. Peterson was a controversial decision winner over the British amateur prodigy man known at home as “King Khan.” The controversy was that referee Joseph Cooper yanked two points away from Khan for “pushing,” once in the 7tth & again the final (12th) round.
