STEROIDS IN BOXING COULD PROVE FATAL TO NON-USER!
San Francisco, CA– My hometown baseball team, the San Francisco Giants were hanging on to first place in the National League West Division on the bat of Melky Cabrera. Acquired earlier this year from Kansas City, Cabrera who signed in 2005 as an amateur free agent with the New York Yankees was honored (sic) as the Most Valuable Player in the annual American League vs. National League All Star game where he shined with a two-run homer in going 2 for 3. Just one month later, Cabrera has been “suspended for 50 games” after testing positive for Testosterone, an anabolic steroid that is the heart of “Performance Enhancement Drugs.”
CABRERA COULD HAVE NETTED $100 MILLION!
With no contract with the Giants past the end of the 2012 season, it was likely that Cabrera would have become a free agent and made him into a $20 million a year player. The Giants management, considered frugal when it comes to dishing out bucks for big names, was in a quagmire of sorts as Cabrera was hitting .346, one at bat short of qualifying for the NL batting title. Currently the NL hitting leader is Andrew McCutchen of the Pittsburgh Pirates who is hitting an astonishing .359. Believe it or not, Cabrera could end up winning the batting title, should McCutchen falter. But according to Major League Baseball rules, Melky “The Cheat” would have hitless at-bats added to his total until he has the minimum 502 at bats. In other words, Melky could still win the NL batting title!

TEXAS CITED ON JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ JR. & ALISTAIR OVEREEM
Texas Athletic Commission Head Dickie Cole & Son Laurence
By Eric Dexheimer of Statesman.com
Note from Pedro Fernandez: This is a lengthy in depth article that shows how “lame” the Texas Athletic Commission is on boxing and MMA. It also illustrates that the Assn. of Boxing Commissions has the strength of sewing thread. The author, Eric Dexheimer certainly did his homework.
Three months ago, professional mixed martial arts fighter Alistair Overeem of the UFC appeared before the Nevada Athletic Commission. A charismatic heavyweight from Holland with a superhero build, he had been scheduled to fight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight title in Las Vegas in May.
But in early April, Overeem had failed a random drug test administered by Nevada regulators, which revealed that he had four times the testosterone of most healthy young men. High levels of the hormone — considered a controlled substance — are forbidden because it can artificially enhance athletic performance. Read more
GUYS AROUND VICTOR CONTE ARE TESTING POSITIVE
San Francisco, CA– There is little doubt today, that if you’re an athlete hooked up with Victor Conte, head of Sports Nutrition for Advanced Conditioning, formerly of BALCO Labs, then you tend to come under a great deal of scrutiny in regards to Performance Enhancing Drugs. Marion Jones, former Olympic gold medalist, went to jail for committing perjury regarding her steroid use. Barry Bonds, former San Francisco Giant and all-time Major League Baseball home run leader, was placed under house arrest regarding his not telling the truth under oath about steroids.
BERTO HAD “TRACE ELEMENTS” OF “SUICIDAL STEROID”
Andre Berto, former world boxing champion, tested positive for steroids a fortnight ago, that’s why Josesito Lopez was called in at the last minute to take on and upset Victor Ortiz on Saturday night. The drug Nandrolene, or some “trace elements” of it were found in Berto’s system. This steroid stays the longest in a an athlete’s system and is akin to committing “athletic suicide” if you know you’re going to be tested as it can stay with you from 18 months to two years.
CONTE’S ONLY KNOWN BASEBALL CLIENT SUSPENDED!
Now another one of Conte’s clients, Marlon Byrd, formerly of the Chicago Cubs, now with the Boston Red Sox, has been suspended for 50 games for testing positive for steroid-related drugs. Now a lot of people say whether smoke there’s fire, but I disagree this time. Look, Conte worked with David Rodriguez, head case, steroid user, and undefeated heavyweight pretender. From that I have to tell you I think his heart is in the right place as he worked for free with Rodriguez for almost a month trying to get them cleaned up steroid wise, as well as mentoring David both physically and emotionally. After that experience, my impression was that David wasted Victor’s time and his manager Bob Spagnola’s money.

HBO GODFATHER WASN’T PULLING PUNCHES ON “RING TALK BOXING HOUR”
San Francisco, CA– The disclosure by the California State Athletic Commission that Antonio “Steroid Man” Tarver tested positive for illegal Steroids in his system for a June 2 fight on SHOWTIME, a network that he works for, brought forth a response from HBO’s Godfather Larry Merchant that was vintage Larry as he grabbed Tarver by the jugular and didn’t let go until he had spoken his mind. We also covered the applicable boxing news of the day. To LISTEN NOW Read more
TARVER-KAYODE SHOWTIME “DRAW” TAINTED BY STEROID USE!
San Francisco, CA
Last Time Antonio Tarver Looked Good Vs. Rocky Balboa
– Recently, some prominent boxers and one MMA (Strikeforce
) fighter in Rafael Cavalcante
have tested positive for some form of Anabolic Steroids
. World class boxers like Andre Berto
, Lamont Peterson
and now it’s Antonio Tarver
. The California State Athletic Commission
is saying that the 43-year old Tarver, whom I repeat hasn’t looked good in the several years since he filmed that last Rocky
movie with Sylvester Stalone
, tested positive for Drostanolone
, a steroid that has a number of uses and effects.
WOMEN USE IT FOR BREAST CANCER
Seeing Tarver (29-6-1, 18 KOs) isn’t suffering from Breast Cancer, the only other reason one can conclude from his use of this drug was to improve both his appearance and performance against the crude but unbeaten Lateef Kayode (18-0-1, 14 KOs) on a June 2nd Showtime card airing from Carson, CA, a fight myself and judge David Denkin (115-113) thought he won. Max Deluca went 115-113 for Tarver while Dave Moretti had it 114-114, which resulted in a draw that will soon be changed to a “No Contest.”

A LOOK AT VICTOR CONTE
San Francisco, CA– Having been on the Bay Area music as a native, and a guy who seen everybody from the Rolling Stones to Frank Sinatra and more, I know a little more than the average music fan. I consider this a preface for what I’m sure what I’m about to write about is going to irk some of you, while others think that I’ve hit a least a double were we playing baseball and not writing. That being the following story is the most prevalent subject in sports and boxing, that being “Drug Use.” And no I’m not talking about Cocaine, Heroin, and Meth (Speed), I’m on the subject of fighters using Performance Enhancing Drugs such as Steroids and the like.
A BASS PLAYER IS A WEIRD DUDE/CHICK
Most of the bass players that I’ve encountered were introverted. But Victor Conte, who had led bands prior to becoming part of Tower of Power in 1976, joining his cousin and guitar player Bruce Conte for one album, was the exact opposite of that notion of being “an introvert.” He can charm the media, and at the same time sell his top of the line SNAC.com (Sports Nutrition For Advanced Conditioning products in a manner that can pay four (at least) salaries and leave Victor smiling. As far his playing bass, having played drums and trombone in school, the bass player was always a “different” type guy.

DRUG TESTING STORY HAS MANY TENTACLES
San Francisco, CA– Having been messed with and misled by promoters and the like for a long time, the article I put up here yesterday was wrong, this according to MaxBoxing.com writer Gabriel Montoya. What Mr. Montoya stated in between near hysterical fits, was that Golden Boy Promotions served him with a “Cease and Desist” letter. The MaxBoxing.com writer says that he lost a job because of promotional pressure put on one of his employers.
TOUGH TO FIGURE OUT
I was under the impression that the article in the Examiner.com by Mark “Scoop” Malinowski was written in conjunction with Montoya. That appears not to be the case. According to Montoya, a guy that I don’t know, I should have called him first. In hindsight, he was correct. Montoya says that Malinowski ripped off his story and took it in a direction that was erroneous. In between Montoya’s rants and threats, I found it hard to decipher what he was trying to say. What I did get out of him was that people in the boxing world, mainly Golden Boy Promotions, have wreaked havoc that has cost him money and his being demoted at BoxingScene.com from an editorial position to that of a once a week writer. If that is the case, and Montoya adamantly says it is, that’s a tough price to pay for his being forthright.

MAXBOXING.COM STEROID STORY CAUSING STRESS!
Oscar De La Hoya-Floyd Mayweather
San Francisco, CA– Yesterday, one of the biggest websites Examiner.com stated that MaxBoxing.com, with whom I have enjoyed a lengthy professional relationship, that their writer Gabriel Montoya, implied that something wasn’t kosher with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and drug testing.
ASKED TO INTERVENE, I CONTACTED KEITH KIZER
Nevada’s Kizer issued a one-sentence response to my Tuesday early afternoon inquiry. Here it is verbatim from Nevada Commission head Keith Kizer: “Neither Oscar nor Floyd has ever failed a NSAC steroid or drug test.”

PACQUIAO FANS THIS IS YOUR ONLY TIME TO CLAP!
Floyd Mayweather Starts Jail Stint Friday
San Francisco, CA– World champion Floyd Mayweather, clearly the best boxer “pound for pound” in boxing reported to the Clark County Jail in Las Vegas, NV as he begins a 90-day sentence, which in all likelihood will be shortened for Domestic Violence. While Floyd can be a jerk at times, the applause that can be heard from Manny Pacquiao fans is so loud you can hear it a continent away from the Philippines.

Does Andre Berto Look Like A Steroid User?
NEW SCRIBE TALKS STEROIDS IN BOXING
Manchester, UK– Two large let downs occurred in both the sport and business of boxing when two potentially great rematches from last year were cancelled. The story started when IBF-WBA jr. welterweight (140 lbs) champion Lamont Peterson (30-1-1, 15 KOs) copped to having taken Performance Enhancing Drugs leading up to the second fight against ex-champion Amir Khan (26-1, 16 KOS) set for last week.
SOME QUESTION THE FIRST FIGHT
Lamont then went on to say that he used a Steroid (Testosterone) prior to their first fight in December 2011. Peterson was a controversial decision winner over the British amateur prodigy man known at home as “King Khan.” The controversy was that referee Joseph Cooper yanked two points away from Khan for “pushing,” once in the 7tth & again the final (12th) round.
OFFICIAL TALLY TAINTED BY REFEREE? Read more
New York, NY– Two major fights have been scrapped in the past week because of the actions, in my opinion, of two punk ass bitches: Andre Berto & Lamont Peterson have failed their drug test due to steroid use. I’d like to put on record that these two a**holes should not be able to earn another cent in the ring! It’s because of scumbags like them that the sport of boxing gets a bad rep. These two mark ass bitches were signed on board in two separate fights that where very intriguing and could have helped the sport further the great year it’s having, now all these dirt bags did is hurt it. I’d like to offer Peterson and Berto a big “f you”, stay outta my sport punks! Also, if either of you two wanna step up to me, bring it! Cuz I’m sure the both of you sans juice would be lit up like the New York City skyline by my 55 year old mother so I’m pretty sure I can take ya!
SNARED IN SELF-SET TRAP?
New York, NY– By now boxing fans have gotten the news that the Amir Khan (26-2 19 KOs) versus Lamont Peterson (30-1-1 15 KOs) jr. welterweight (140 lb.) title bout has been cancelled. This is because Peterson has been flagged as a user of a banned substance via the comprehensive testing of VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association). VADA is similar to USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency), the entity being utilized by Floyd Mayweather beginning with Shane Mosley in 2010. The testing protocols of these agencies are designed to catch cheating athletes who otherwise would pass standard testing procedures. So Far Mayweather and his opponents have come back clean.
TESTOSTERONE IS A STEROID!
For Lamont Peterson, the banned substance has been reported as synthetic testosterone, a substance Peterson admitted to using prior to his signature victory over Amir Khan in December of last year. Ironically Peterson is the one who requested WADA testing in his rematch with Khan, only to himself get popped for using PED’s (Performance Enhancing Drugs) himself. Either team Peterson thought they wouldn’t get caught or somehow the idea of using drugs to improve Testosterone didn’t register as an obvious conflict for an athlete, despite stricter testing protocol. Either way, these missteps have tarnished Lamont’s clean image and may linger with him for the rest of his career.

UFC #1 CONTENDER GETS NINE MONTH SUSPENSION!
Long "Suspected" Cheat Allistar Overeem Suspended!
San Francisco, CA– To say that UFC President Dana White is pissed off, well that might be the understatement of 2012 when it comes to the world of MMA. Earlier this week, the Nevada State Athletic Commission refused to license Alistair Overeem, this after testing positive about six weeks ago for Testosterone, an-anabolic Steroid. At first I was told that his level was 7-1, which would put him with a hair of Nevada’s limit. But when the results were finally released, Overeem, of the Netherlands, a Strikeforce star before signing with the UFC late last year and then defeating ex-champ Brock Lesnar, had a 14-1 ratio, Nevada will let a 6-1 ratio go, WADA, the World Anti Doping Assn. has a 4-1 cut off. Overeem is suspended with “stipulations” that say he cannot fight anywhere in the world for nine months!
CHAMPION DOS SANTOS NOW FACES FRANK MIR!
On May 26, it’ll be ex-UFC champ Frank Mir challenging the best stand up fighting heavyweight in probably MMA history in Junior Dos Santos. After capturing the title with a KO of Cain Velasquez last November on the UFC debut card on FOX TV, Dos Santos, had fought with a broken foot, and Velasquez with a bad knee and shoulder, Dos Santos has fully recovered, as has Velasquez and both will be on the May 26 Pay Per View card from Las Vegas. OVERTURN UFC FIGHTS FOR WEED, BUT BOXING STEROIDS OK!
Shane Mosley Admitted Knowingly Taking Steroids
San Francisco, CA– Word came of of Las Vegas, NV this past week that UFC fighter Nick Diaz has allegedly tested positive for Marijuana. Diaz does have a Medical Marijuana recommendation from a California Dr. for medical issues. If this is true and Diaz failed the drug test, Nevada may suspend or even ban Diaz. Ironically, Medical Marijuana is not only legal in Nick’s native California, but Nevada has legal Medical Marijuana as well. A side note to this is Senator Mark Leno is pushing a bill through the California legislature that will forbid employers from penalizing or terminating Medical Marijuana patients. Look, Leno is not saying you can go to work stoned, but seeing California recognizes it as a medicine, how can you legally penalize somebody for Medical Marijuana which can stay in your system 90 days after use.
WIN TAKEN OFF DIAZ’S RECORD
UFC Fighter Nick Diaz
In May 2007, Diaz beat Japan’s Takanori Gomi in Las Vegas. Afterwards, Nick tested positive for Marijuana and the win was taken away from him and the Nevada State Athletic Commission, under the leadership of Keith Kizer, declared the fight was declared a No Contest. In other words, the fight never took place. Obviously, Marijuana is not a Performance Enhancing Drug, unlike Steroids or EPO.
YOU KNOW WHAT STEROIDS ARE, HOW ABOUT EPO?
“Erythropoietin (pronounced, ah-rith-ro-poy-tin AKA EPO) is a relatively recent entry into the deceitful pursuit of glory. EPO is a protein hormone produced by the kidney. After being released into the blood stream it binds with receptors in the bone marrow, where it stimulates the production of red blood cells (erythrocytes).” I took these words from an MD who is well versed on cheaters in sports.
