CHAMPION BOB FOSTER, CAREER, DEATH OF AN ICON

BOXING ICON FOSTER NOT QUITE RODNEY DANGERFIELD

World Champion Bob Foster

World Champion Bob Foster

San Francisco, CA– The recent passing of former light heavyweight champion Bob Foster got it’s share of media attention. Few penning a column today had the chance to spend time with “The Sheriff” of Albuquerque, New Mexico, who was probably the greatest light heavyweight champion in history. The few who did get to know the historically shortchanged Foster include myself.

THERE STOOD THE “GREAT” BOB FOSTER

When I first met Bob Foster, it was in Albuquerque, NM in the 80s, he was still refereeing an occasional fight and held a position as an Albuquerque Deputy Sheriff. Being me, I chased Foster around until I saw a spot where I can get his undivided attention. Once the champion sat down, he fired up a cigarette. “OK, you got me. What do you want to know?” If you approached Bob and he felt “good vibes.” Foster was accessible. So from that point forward, he would call me, “Pablo.”

NEW MEXICO BOXING/COMBAT SPORTS HAS HAD GOOD RUNS!

There were some good times in Albuquerque in the 90s and early part of this century as Frankie Archuleta did well, while Danny Romero and more notably Johnny Tapia soared to great heights wearing boxing gloves, while another Albuquerque boxing champion, Holly Holm just plastered MMA’s biggest star Ronda Rousey in less than six minutes of fighting a fortnight ago. With all this, still in the background of the New Mexico boxing scene was this iconic champion unbeaten in 15 title fights and retiring as champion after a Draw over 15 rounds with Jorge Victor Ahumeda (40-5) in 1974. Foster won the belt when he defanged the great Dick Tiger of Nigeria in a 1968 upset.

COULD NOT MATCH THE HEAVYWEIGHT MUSCLE MASS

“The big guys, both Ali, (Joe) Frazier, were just too big across the back for me. I was 6’3, taller than them. Nobody lifted weights back then. (Michael) Spinks did it. I would have knocked out Michael Spinks. He couldn’t pull that bull s*it on me. I’da walked him down and punished him. I know he was the only light heavy to win a heavyweight championship, but again, I’da ran his ass out of the ring. The fights I lost in and around my prime were to Ali and Frazier and they were both people say were in their prime.”

FOSTER “STRUGGLED” TO WEIGH 175

“I had problems with the weight….I used to have to drink a beer every night in training to keep near weight or I’da dropped more weight. Some of those fights when I was ’75. I was really 70, 71, 72. Back to Spinks, he showed what he was made of with (Mike) Tyson. He quit, didn’t even even get hit. I never laid down. I think they will look at us years from now and realize Spinks couldn’t beat me ever. Against Ali, I had him hurt and cut. I just was too damn’ skinny to fight heavyweight.”

BLACK FLOYD FANS HAVE RONDA ROUSEY ISSUES

INTERNET WORLD CALLS THEM “FLOMOS”

Ronda Rousey-Floyd Mayweather

Ronda Rousey-Floyd Mayweather

San Francisco, CA– Last week I wrote about how after visiting with some Black guys I chew the boxing rag with on occasion, and how they seemed to “belittle” UFC female champion Ronda Rousey almost unanimously when she was brought up. It was as if Ronda had pissed in their beer.

HERBS, INCENSE, MUSIC, BUT NO FLEAS!

When I returned to the Berkeley Flea Market on Sunday, I approached the group with the Rousey naysayers. Some of the anti-RR contingent were playing drums, others sitting on the steps taking in the groove. After debating who was the best between Ray Leonard-Tommy Hearns at (147 lb.) welterweight, the talk went to Floyd Mayweather Jr.

OLD SCHOOL TYPES NOT “SOLD” ON MAYWEATHER

When “Floyd” was passed around the circle, the group was seemingly divided between “old timers” and those under 30. Not surprisingly, the elders thought Leonard and Hearns were better than the Floyd Mayweather Jr. era, while the youngsters, a great majority of which were popping off sans ever seeing Hearns, Leonard or Roberto Duran fight, thought Floyd was superior.

WAITED UNTIL SHORTLY BEFORE “GREAT” MASSAGE

Although I wanted to bring up Ronda Rousey winning the “ESPY Best Fighter Award” right away, I felt in order to get the best, spontaneous response to my Ronda Rousey query, that I had to wait until the time was right.

MEN, MOSTLY BLACK, HAVE RONDA ROUSEY ISSUES

ROUSEY THREATENS STATUS OF SOME MEN

Mike Tyson & Ronda Rousey

Mike Tyson & Ronda Rousey

San Francisco, CA– Having had my finger on the pulse of the MMA world since shortly after the first UFC show in 1993, and the boxing game decades prior to that, I’ve never seen an athlete, excuse me, a female athlete get under the skin of the opposing sex as Ronda Rousey has.

LET’S TAKE A HARD LOOK AT RONDA

Just 28 years old, the UFC bantamweight (135 lb.) champion from Glendale, CA, while unbeaten in MMA at 11-0, nobody has lasted the distance, be it three-five minute round fights or the championship/main event route of five-five minute sessions of battle. The not hard to look at Miesha Tate lasted 10:58, or :58 seconds into round three.

“ROWDY ONE” NOT RESTING ON JUDO LAURELS

The first American woman to ever Medal in Olympic Judo, Rousey got the Bronze in 2008. She surrounds herself with a team of Armenian judo trainers and the legendary “King of Grappling & SubmissionGene Labell. Retired (unbeaten) female boxer Lucia Ryjker is Ronda’s striking coach.

ROUSEY WILL BE QUEEN OF SILVER SCREEN

Ronda has done movies, TV, made a slew of commercials and six months ago signed a seven $igure pact with Reebok. Her Hollywood future is certain while her continuing to fight is not. Right now, she is the hottest commercial name in combat sports, and that includes Floyd Mayweather, who because of whacking dames around (Domestic Violence) isn’t asked to plug products.

EXCLUSIVE: FAKE WBC CHAMP RETURNS IN FIXED FIGHT

TOP RANK “FIGHT FIXING” FIGURE IN FIXED SATURDAY FIGHT

Jorge Kahwagi With Breast Implants

Jorge Kahwagi Has Breast Implants

San Francisco, CA– While working with agents of and representatives of the Federal Bureau of Investigation on “Fixed Fights Emanating From The Top Rank Offices,” my probe took me to Mexico and a WBC title fight involving reputed Mexican drug kingpin turned politico Jorge Kahwagi and American Dwayne Swift.

FILM OF “FIXED SATURDAY FIGHT” AT END OF STORY

Possessing hours of undercover tapes recorded by Justice Dept. and FBI Agents, plots and schemes to “steal” money from fighters were some of the topics bantered about by Top Rank corporate officers. This cast included two Top Rank Vice President’s in Bruce Trampler and Sean Gibbons.

TAPES OF TOP RANK “CORPORATE CORRUPTION”

On the tape, a number of Top Rank employees and executives are essentially eating popcorn at Top Rank as they played fixed fights back on videotape, all the while these Top Rank guys offer commentary on “fight fixing.” In one instance, Trampler, Gibbons, et al, elaborate about having a plastic surgeon cut the eye of Kahwagi’s opponent Duane Swift prior to their 2004 fight in order to make this reputed drug baron look like Superman.

KAHWAGI BACK 10 YEARS AFTER PEDRO “RETIRED” HIM!

On Saturday, Kahwagi who has served in the Mexican Congress, returned to the ring in Cebu City, Philippines. The foil was fellow Mexican import Ramon Olivas (13-4, 9 KOS), who succumbed to Kahwagi in a mere :57 seconds. By the way, Kahwagi spent five figures (US) of late on male breast implants (see pecs).

PROMOTER FERNANDO BELTRAN EXPORTED FIXED FIGHT

People in Mexico who know a little about Kahwagi realize he “couldn’t lick a stamp if you wet his tongue .” With the FBI probe, some Mexican journalists reaching out to me on Kahwagi back then, there is no way Kahwagi, even with all his money and power could have pulled off a “tanked” fight like you are about to see AGAIN in Mexico.

BOXING CROOK MAKES “GREAT” COMEBACK

After being jettisoned from the Top Rank plantation, Sean Gibbons, up to his ears in fixed fights, Cocaine deals and corruption in general, after having had his taped plans to fix fights and steal additional monies made public by yours truly, Arum fired him and Sean ended up working for a California Indian tribe.

OKLAHOMA REPORT LABELED GIBBONS “TOP BOXING CROOK”

This was after I went public with Gibbon’s crimes against boxing, which were detailed in a report by the Oklahoma Attorney General’s office on boxing corruption. To show you how Bob Arum is as dirty as a porta’ potty here, after all the documentation of Gibbons fixing fights, medical exams, drugs, etc., Bob Arum hired him back with a raise and promotion!
