MANNY PACQUIAO NIXED FLOYD MAYWEATHER FIGHT

DON’T DISMISS ALEX ARIZA WHEN HE SPEAKS

Pacquiao & Alex Ariza

Pacquiao & Alex Ariza

San Francisco, CA– Nutrition guru and strength conditioning coach Alex Ariza has made quite a mark in his boxing tenure. He started getting props for his being with Manny Pacquiao during a period of time when the Filipino was making an historic romp
Wapakaman Would Never Run From Floyd

Wapakaman Would Never Run From Floyd

through a record number of weight divisions. “Double A” works with other fighters the likes of current WBO 130 lb. kingpin Mikey Garcia and Floyd Mayweather’s next handpicked foe Marcos Maidana.

ARIZA FITNESS HAS HAD SOME ISSUES

Ariza has had his share of red flags working behind the scenes and in the corner. It has been alleged Manny Pacquiao was on Steroids and because of Ariza’s position in the camp, fingers were pointed at him. During the Maidana upset win over Adrien Broner, it appeared to some that Ariza gave Maidana “smelling salts” to revive him between rounds. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. came up dirty, Brandon Rios tested positive in China last year with Ariza on hand. While this is not a pretty picture, so what. My feeling is that Ariza knows his stuff and that you don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.

LENNOX LEWIS TO FREDDIE ROACH “RANDOM NOTES”

NO AMOUNT OF CASH COULD BRING LENNOX BACK

Lennox Lewis-Vitali Klitshcko

Lennox Lewis-Vitali Klitshcko

San Francisco, CA– Looking back on recent history, there’s only been one guy that I can recall that walked away from boxing at the right time and that was World heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis. After his cut-aborted life and death battle with a determined Vitali Klitschko, Lennox walked away.

LENNOX POST FIGHT DRESSING ROOM

I remember carrying an alphabet belt back to Lewis’ dressing room after he shutout David Tua over 12 rounds. If you really want to see what a fighter’s all about, be in his post fight dressing room and not have him realize anybody outside of his team was there. There were a few curse words, watching a proud Steward looked on as Lennox was pumped and it took him about 5-10 minutes to calm down. He took a urine test and moved on to the press conference with the Slowin’ Samoan David Tua.

EMANUEL STEWARD ON LENNOX LEWIS

The Kronk Gym Goldfather Emanuel Steward told me, “Lennox is smarter than your average fighter. Some fighters are not thinkers. Others think too much. But there are a few guys that have the right mindset to be a long reigning champion. About retirement, we all agreed that it was Lennox’s decision. I’m glad he stuck to it, he’s happy, got money, his health, a family and a great spot in boxing history.”

GOLDEN BOY & FOX SPORTS CHI-TOWN FIGHT RESULTS

FOX SPORTS & OSCAR DE LA HOYA DO CHICAGO

Ronny Rios-Andrew Cancio

Ronny Rios-Andrew Cancio

Chicago, IL– It was an exciting night with boxing at the UIC Pavilion and broadcast on Fox Sports. The main event was a barn burner, filled with back and forth action between jr. lightweights (130 lb.) Ronny Rios (23-0. 10 KOs) and Andrew Cancio (15-3-2, 11 KOs). The two men stood in a phone booth and exchanged punches like a pair of “boxing” robots which made each round difficult to score.

RIOS FOUGHT “REAL” SMART

Although Cancio appeared to be physically stronger and the harder puncher, it was Rios’ more intelligent inside fighting, sharper jab, footwork, and quicker combinations that allowed him to keep his undefeated record intact despite running out of gas in the final two rounds.

VICTOR LOOKED GOOD UNTIL GASSING!

The cards read 97-93 (twice) and 96-94 all in his favor.

“I’m not gonna lie, he did have a hard punch,” Rios admitted to reporters afterwards. “At first I felt like he was timid a little bit, like he wasn’t swinging on his punches and then I thought the first 8 rounds I thought I was winning clearly then I let him back into the late rounds. In like the 8th, 9th, 10th, that’s when I thought I let it get closer than what it should be.”

TOBY GIBSON THIRD SUICIDAL REFEREE

Las Vegas, NVToby Gibson, a veteran Nevada boxing referee was found dead on November 24, 2008 in the garage of his home in Las Vegas by his wife. And while nobody is saying just how the 61-year old Gibson met a self induced demise, being an ex-S.F. Policeman, garage suicides usually mean hanging or carbon monoxide from a car. This was sad to see yet another Vegas referee go the suicide route. First there was Richard Green in 1983 and most recently Mitch Halpern in August

2000. Both Mitch and Green shot themselves in the head. Always quiet around me, muted would be a better definition as Green did not talk much. Having reffed Larry Holmes-Ali, Green never got over his involvement with the Ray Mancini-Deuk-Koo Kim fight less than a year prior to his death, a tragic event that ended Kim’s life.

ADRIAN BRONER: BOXING SUPERSTAR ON HBO

BRONER HAS WRANKLED SOME FIGHT FANS

Adrian Broner Is Unimpressed With Gavin Rees

San Francisco, CA– Why do people have a problem with Adrian Broner? The 23-year old from Cincinatti, OH is in my eyes the best fighter to come out of that locale since Hall of Fame inductee Aaron Pryor. Although Pryor could box well, comparing him and Adrian is not easy considering the contrasting styles. Broner is more finese and fluidity, while Pryor’s method of boxing could best be called frenetic.

ADRIAN EMITS FLASHES OF RING BRILLIANCE

With “Sugar Ray” Leonard like bursts of fire in his combinations, Adrian is one of the only boxers today that can also utilize Floyd Mayweather’s defensive moves and roll the shoulder. At 25-0 with 21 early endings, Broner will risk his “0” and both the WBO & WBC 135 lb. trinkets when he squares off with rugged (but limited) Gavin Rees (37-1-1, 18 KOs) of Great Britain Saturday night on an HBO broadcast emanating from Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ.

JOE DIAZ V. ARIZONA BOXING COMMISSION UPDATE

Joe Diaz About To Slay Goliath

MONTANO FINALLY GOING TO HAVE HIS STONES SQUEEZED!

San Francisco, CA– If you’ve been following the scandal involving “Yory Boy” Campas, trainer Joe Diaz, the Arizona Boxing Commission, Top Rank Promotions and their Arizona promoter, the currently incarcerated Peter McKinn, you know it is a fight that I have helped Joe and Campas wage for some six years. But this case is like a green banana, it’ll eventually ripen to the point where you can eat the fruit.

LAWYER MOVING HIS OFFICE TO PHOENIX FOR 5-6 MONTHS!

When he resigned or retired from the Arizona Boxing Commission, it’s head man, a creep who cost me jobs, conspired with people to ruin Diaz, Campas and myself, John Montano was under the impression that with his political ties in Arizona government, that he truly was “Teflon John.” Pretty soon, he’ll be “Johnny The Trick” as attorney Edward Moriarity is moving his offices to Phoenix so he can turn out “Johnny The Trick,” ex-Commission chairperson Mary Rose Wilcox, Top Rank and McKinn, and expose these whores for what they are.

COCAINE, BOXING, MURDER PART I

Robert Quiroga

Robert Quiroga

San Francisco, CA– A disturbing episode of the A & E TV series “Gangland” brought me back to 1991 and one of the scintillating fights of the modern era. It was mid-Saturday afternoon on the left coast and the recently departed Cedric “I Was the Walrus” Kushner was promoting a card on PPV for $14.95. The card was topped by Robert Quiroga defending his IBF 115 lb. belt against “Kid Akeem” Anifowoshe in a San Antonio, TX battle that was the Ring Magazine 1991 Fight of The Year.”

BACKGROUND MORE INTERESTING THAN GREAT FIGHT?

Prior to getting to the actual fight, we need to do a lot of background here as there is quite a story to tell about these two men, both whom are dead! Seeing Akeem was the challenger, we start with the Nigerian born pug who caught the eye of Ring Magazine getting an “honorable mention for 1987 Prospect of The Year.” Trained by the astute Miguel Diaz, Akeem was Las Vegas based.

“THE KID” AT 23 WAS 23 & 0!

Fighting through a slew of no-names as he sharpened his craft and increased his stamina, “Kid Akeem” was 23-0 with 18 KOs entering the June 15, 1991 clash in the hometown of the champion Quiroga. According to the bookmakers, the line went back and forth, but with Akeem’s Las Vegas roots and Billy Baxter backing, he emerged the slight betting favorite.

ARLEN “SPIDER” BYNUM: TEXAS ICON HANGS ‘EM UP!

Arlen & Charlsie Bynum

Arlen & Charlsie Bynum

EX-FIGHTER, JUDGE, REFEREE, WBC LAWYER

San Francisco, CA– In between being a skinny kid that started boxing at 112 lbs, to that of a skinny man who fought at heavyweight, Arlen “Spider” Bynum found his place in the world both romantically and professionally. First off, he found a true soul mate in his wife Charlsie. Then as he became one of Dallas’ finest attorneys, he became a father, and all the while Spider continued being involved in boxing as an official both at an amateur and professional level.

WORKED GOLDEN GLOVES & WORLD TITLE FIGHTS

WBO KOS ARIZONA’S JOHN MONTANO IN COURT

”KING JOHN” UNDEFEATED NO MORE!

images

San Francisco, CA– Having for years railed against the “suspect” Arizona Boxing Commission and its figurehead John Montano, I can tell you that I wasn’t surprised when a jury in San Juan, Puerto Rico ruled that Montano misappropriated monies that belonged to the World Boxing Organization’s (WBO) (NABO) North American Boxing Organization.

ONE TIME WBO HIERARCHY PUSHED FROM OFFICE

Once a WBO executive, Montano had been ousted from the WBO. Even so he continued to sanction fights under the NABO banner in 1996 & 97. After Montano ignored a series of “cease and desist” letters, this prompted the WBO/NABO to file suit against him. Montano countersued and the case has been in limbo since. The court ordered Montano, referee Ismael Fernandez and wife Virginia Pinto, pay the NABO/WBO an amount close to $200,000.

IN THE JUDGE’S OWN WORDS

Judge Ivone Diaz put the following in the court’s ruling: “The facts herein show, without any doubt, that John Montano had no right to use the name and initial letters of NABO, which is, at the same time, an affiliate of the WBO, as it was the property of the plaintiffs.”

”RING TALK” INSURED NO BACKROOM DEALS

As I prefaced earlier, Arizona, under Montano’s 30-year grip, has gone from being a mid-level player in boxing to a non-player. Ever since 2005 when we exposed Montano’s relationship/favoritism with Peter McKinn, once a promoter who fronted for Top Rank in Arizona, was brought to light the number of shows in the state have fallen off close to 75 %. I’m sorry that the people of Arizona, particularly boxing fans, have had to watch boxing go bye-bye. In my opinion, I point the finger at three people in Montano, McKinn, and Arizona Boxing Commissioner Mary “But Shot” Rose Wilcox.

PEDRO WAS ON THE GROUND IN ARIZONA

You see I’ve been to Arizona. And yes, that was me being detained by police at the request of Peter McKinn, this while walking a picket line in front of Montano’s office. I even got tossed from an Athletic Commission meeting because I stood before Mrs. Wilcox and told her the rules set forth by the state of Arizona state that she had to deliberate the status of Ramon “Yory Boy” Campas’ boxing license out loud and in public.

WILCOX ONCE WAS SHOT IN HER ASS!

Forcing Wilcox and crew to follow the letter of the law was fruitful seeing Campas was given back his boxing license. That has been the “lone” victory scored against the Arizona boxing regime. The folks I feel the most for here is those that have been denied the opportunity to enjoy boxing in Arizona as they had with Peter McKinn fronting, I think somebody had to force the issuE.

CANTANKEROUS DIAZ NOTHIN’ BUT GOOD INTENTIONS

Joe Diaz, Campas’ trainer and owner of the Top Level Boxing Gym in Phoenix, he has tried. But it takes big money to go after crooks slithering through the cracks of a`bureaucracy, especially at the state level. Mrs. Wilcox, a biatch in the truest sense of the word, ticked off a constituent of the Maricopa County Supervisor. He then produced a handgun and shot in the ass while she ran attempting to flee.

DO THE NUMBERS TELL A STORY HERE?

As for boxing in Arizona in general, other promoters have tried and had difficult times. For the record, when RingTalk.com sunk our teeth into Peter McKinn, John Montano, et al, it was 2005 and there were 23 shows. In 2008 there were eight!
