BOXING’S KING SHOULD STOP THE B.S. NOW!

San Francisco, CA- Without a doubt, Manny Pacquiao has become “the darling” of the boxing world. Having risen from poverty to that of a multi millionaire, the Filipino Congressman has surpassed all expectations of even his most ardent followers. From 107 lbs., titles at 112, 122, 130, 135, 140, 154*, and now 147, there is no way you can sell him short. But in all honesty, in all of the aforementioned weight classes, Pacquiao has been never been the “undisputed” champion.

That doesn’t mean he is not a great fighter, as certainly his near 11 year run with only one defeat, which he avenged twice to Erik Morales, the man from General Santos City, is “Mr. Boxing.” But in his last three fights, Pacman, like it or not has “milked” that lofty position by fighting boxing’s version of The Three Stooges, Larry, Curly and Moe, Joshua Clottey, Antonio Margarito, and a fortnight ago, “Sugarless Shane” Mosley. Only the weight drained and pugilistic disgrace Margarito even made any attempt at winning.

San Francisco, CA- Last Friday at the Northern California Retired Boxers Assn. monthly luncheon, the upcoming Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley fight came up, followed by my asking, “is this a competitive fight?” On paper, it looks like Manny Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KOs) will paint Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs) like a picket fence. But are there any advantages Mosley at 39, has against a 32-year old Pacman?

Hand & Foot speed: Although Mosley had good snap in his prime and rhythm when throwing punches in bunches, the Pacman will have the edge both in both departments. Once possessing excellent footwork, Shane looks to get out sped by Pac’s ability to dart in and out, it might make Mosley look fast as molasses.

NEAR TWO MONTH HOSPITAL STAY

San Francisco, CA- The man that has televised more fights live than anybody in history, Colonel Bob Sheridan has been in and out (more in) of a Las Vegas hospital over the past two months. This is said to be from difficulty with a Pacemaker the Colonel had installed in late 2010. Having had four heart attacks, Bob Sheridan, who televised 900 world title fights (three or four with me) broke into the field when he televised the “Rumble in The Jungle,” Muhammad Ali’s upset of George Foreman from Zaire, Africa in 1974. His last fight was said to be in August 2010. We hope that the Colonel, a World Boxing Hall of Fame member that can make a dull fight sound exciting with his quips and high-energy broadcast mode, can get the health issue solved and be back behind the microphone soon.

“FAT ASS” MARY ROSE WILCOX IS BOTH POLITICAL & BOXING TRASH!

San Francisco, CA- If I have ever said anything good about ex-Arizona Boxing Commissioner and currently indicted Maricopa County (Phoenix, AZ) Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox, it was that she had a big fat ass! Her derrière is so large that one of her constituents took aim at Wilcox with a gun and hit her dead center in the butt! The reason why I can make light of this shooting is three fold. 1. Mary Rose survived. 2. The wound was not life threatening. 3. She escaped serious injury because the bullet couldn’t go through the abundance of junk (fat) she has in her trunk.

Mary Rose Wilcox’s husband, Earl Wilcox, who as an aide to then Governor Janet Napolitano (now head of Homeland Security) walked into the chambers of Judge Carlos Mendoza with boxing promoter Peter McKinn. Not only did Peter McKinn have an outstanding arrest warrant issued by Mendoza’s court. MORALES SAYS ON FACEBOOK THAT “MARQUEZ FIGHT IS ON!”

San Francisco, CA- Although there are still a few kinks to ironed out, it appears a deal has been struck between Mexican boxers Juan Manuel Marquez (66-7, 43 KOs) and Erik Morales (51-6, 35 KOs) to fight April 9, at the MGM Grand. Morales is the last man to beat Manny Pacquiao, yet some feel Marquez beat him twice!

MOST THOUGHT THE WBC WAS DEAD ALREADY!

Hollywood, CA- In what was a truly disgusting move to me, the World Boxing Council (WBC) has named linear and undisputed middleweight (160 lbs) king Sergio Martinez (46-2-2, 25 KOs) the “Emeritus champion” of their sanctioning mob. Get ready to puke, interim champion Sebastian Zbik (30-0, 10 KOs) has been anointed the title of “Super champion”. When you consider that Martinez has only held the WBC belt for less than a year and hasn’t had a reasonable amount of time to make the mandatory defense against the unworthy interim guy, see this as yet another attempt by the WBC to generate more money for the struggling group.

DON’T FORGET THE WORLD OF BUNCO & ANARCHY!

The only thing worse than the WBC’s antics that put further scar the image of the sport of boxing, is the “trendsetting” World Boxing Association (WBA). Currently they have three world champions at middleweight. Their Super champion is Germany’s Felix Sturm (34-2-1, 14 KOs), regular champion is power puncher and 2004 Olympic Silver Medalist Gennady Golovkin (20-0, 17 KOs) of Kazakstan, and interim champion is Hassan N’ Dam N’Jakim (25-0, 17 KOs) from Cameroon.

TOCCO PRESENT WHEN EX-CHAMP LISTON WAS FOUND DEAD

San Francisco, CA- Say what you want, but there are probably more dead people that I can respect than there are living. That being said, as 2011 nears I think about some of the people in boxing that are no longer with us. We will start in Las Vegas, where Johnny Tocco ran the “Ringside Gym” on the corner of Charleston & Main from the mid 50′s to the late 90′s.

LISTON, HE DIED IN HIS OWN HAND(S)?

He was a prince of a man who along with another “Sin City” alumni in the late Davey Pearl, were handling former heavyweight champ Sonny Liston at the time of his death. Reports had Liston dying from a Heroin overdose, folklore has him being murdered by the Mafia for refusing to throw the fight (his last) with Chuck Wepner, the same Wepner that Sylvester Stalone developed the Rocky movie character from. Truth be told, and I’m not trying to be funny here, but Liston was found on top of his made bed in his Las Vegas home with his underwear down around his ankles. More than likely Sonny Liston died from a Stroke he suffered while stroking it!

HOUSE WAS LOCKED FROM THE INSIDE

Sonny’s house was locked from the inside, no windows were open or unlocked, this according to his wife, who discovered the body on January 5, 1971 and a LVPD investigation that some say was a “cover up.” Because of the newspapers left on the stoop, it was estimated that Liston died on December 30 or 31, 1970. At the time of his death, Sonny was 50-4 with 39 KOs. Having beaten Wepner in June 1970, Sonny was trying to redeem himself after a brutal one-punch KO loss to Leotis Martin in 1969. Liston’s age was always suspect, as his death certificate stated he was 38. There are many who think Sonny was at least five years older.
