TJ DILLASHAW WINS UFC CROWN STOPPING RENAN BARAO

May 25th, 2014 By Zak "Attack" Young

ANOTHER BRAZILIAN MMA LEGEND SLAIN BY YANKEE

TJ Dillashaw Sets Tone Early

TJ Dillashaw Sets Tone Early

Las Vegas, NV- In a shocking upset, a vastly improved T.J. Dillashaw (11-2) put a beating on bantamweight (135) champion Renan Barao (32-2) before dropping him and finishing him off in the 5th round. The new champ set the tone for the evening when he drilled the Brazilian into the canvas with a single right hand.

BOXING KEY TO VICTORY

Although the Team Alpha Male member fighting out of Sacramento, CA mixed in some takedowns here and there, it was Dillashaw’s superior boxing and footwork that allowed him to pull off a bigger upset than Chris Weidman did in beating Anderson Silva the first time last year. Barao was heavily favored going in but was thoroughly dominated by the new titleholder who was ranked #9.

UFC FIGHT NIGHT SEES BROWN BEST SILVA

May 11th, 2014 By Zak "Attack" Young

UFC FIGHT NIGHT ON FOX WAS SOLID!

UFC Czar Dana White

UFC Czar Dana White

Los Angeles, CA- In the main event of UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva from the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, OH, welterweight (170 lbs.) Matt Brown (19-11) continued his recent string of knockouts with a TKO over Erick Silva (16-5-0-1) at 2:11 of round three. It was a pretty dominant performance from Brown, who was able to stifle the offense of the explosive Silva throughout. This win moves Brown closer to the crack at the title in a very loaded welterweight division. Silva, who is now 4-4 in the UFC, may be forced to continue his career in another organization.

SEMI-MAIN EVENT ENDS EARLY AS WELL!

In the co-feature, middleweight (185) Costas Phillippou (13-4-1) knocked out Lorenz Larkin (14-3-1) just 3:37 seconds into the very first round. Both men landed some nice shots, but in the end, Phillippou was able to drop Larkin with a hard left hook that sealed the deal. I thought Larkin might just be good enough to best Costas who appeared to be on the way down, but Phillippou proved he has fight left in him.

UFC 172 POST FIGHT, DRUGS, TUF ON SPIKE TV TONIGHT

April 30th, 2014 By Zak "Attack" Young

JONES’ “EYE POKES” PISSING DANA WHITE OFF

Jon "Bones" Jones

Jon “Bones” Jones

Los Angeles, CA- UFC light heavyweight (205 lb.) champion Jon Jones (20-1) made easy work of contender Glover Teixeira (22-3) over 5 rounds to retain his belt. Teixeira was never really all that competitive, but did manage to last the distance. Jones controlled the fight but looked a bit gun shy at times and seemed hesitant to take risks.

JONES STILL “SMARTING” FROM GUSTAFSON CLASH?

The much heralded champion took a lot of damage in his fight with Alexander Gustafsson (16-2), and Glover certainly has power, so the combination of the two may have made Jones more tentative than “Bones” Jones is normally. Still, “Double J” was able to get the job done and remains the longest reigning champion in UFC light heavyweight history. The post fight discussion included Dana White acknowledging the fact that Jones’ pokes (fouls) opponents in the eyes with his long fingers.

RETURNING JOHNSON “RUMBLES” TO WIN

In the co-main event, light heavyweight Anthony “Rumble” Johnson (17-4) made a successful return to the UFC by taking a decision from the over the hill and passive Phil Davis (12-2-0-1). It was Johnson’s first fight in the UFC since January 2012.

EX-STRIKEFORCE KING CONTINUES TO IMPRESS

Middleweight (185) Luke Rockhold (12-2) notched an impressive submission win over veteran gatekeeper Tim Boetsch (17-7) at 2:08 of the opening round. Lightweight (155) Jim Miller (24-4-0-1) also got a first round submission after 3 minutes and 18 seconds versus Yancy Medeiros (9-2-0-1). In the opening bout of the main card, featherweight (145) Max Holloway (9-3) submitted Andre Fili (13-2) at 3:39 of round number 3.

ARP Makes Bold move

The Association of Ringside Physicians (ARP), an international, non-profit organization dedicated to the health and safety of the boxer and mixed martial arts athlete, has released a consensus statement on weight management in professional combat sports as follows:

Introduction

Unhealthy and sometimes dangerous weight loss practices continue to be a significant problem in amateur and professional combat sports. The ARP recommends that regulatory bodies adopt standardized weigh-in policies in conjunction with year-round weight management and educational programs.

SCORES MAR UFC 171 HENDRICKS-LAWLER MAIN EVENT

March 15th, 2014 By Pedro Fernandez

Johny Hendricks-Robbie Lawler

Johny Hendricks-Robbie Lawler

JOHNNY HENDRICKS GETS UNDESERVED WIN AT HOME

San Francisco, CA- At UFC 167, Johnny Hendricks was shorted by three judges who gave legendary UFC welterweight (170 lb.) champ Georges St. Pierre a Unanimous Decision after Hendicks seemingly won 4 of the 5 rounds. Last night in Dallas, TX, the hometown for Hendricks, Robbie Lawler got the short end of a unanimous decision with three scores of 48-47 (3-2 rounds). The way I saw it, Lawler certainly won 3, if not 4 rounds against Hendricks. Using a size and reach advantage, Lawler out punched Hendricks for the first 20 minutes. The only round Hendricks won clearly was the last. Truly an MMA heist, at least in my eyes on the scorecards.

HECTOR LOMBARD GETS BY JAKE SHIELDS

Former Bellator middleweight (185) titleholder Hector Lombard, now a welter (170) took a UD 3 over game Jake Shields. Lombard gassed in the 2nd round and Shields tried to turn the judges his way but came up shy on the cards 30-27 twice & 29-28.

LYOTO MACHIDA IS THE DRAGON OF UFC

February 24th, 2014 By Zak "Attack" Young

MACHIDA A HUGE THREAT TO CHRIS WEIDMAN?

Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida

Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida

Los Angeles, CA- In the main event of UFC Fight Night 36 from Brazil last week, Brazilian middleweight (185 lb.) contender Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida (21-4, 13-4 UFC) likely secured his spot for the next shot at the belt with a convincing win over the very talented Gegard Mousasi (34-4-2, 1-1 UFC). Mousasi was game throughout but simply fought a better man.

“THE DRAGON” WAS BREATHING FIRE!

Machida showcased his full mixed martial arts arsenal, landing kicks, punches, elbows, takedowns, and getting the former Strikeforce champion in some very compromising situations on the ground. Overall, this was a very impressive performance form Machida, in what was deservedly the fight of the night. It was a tactical battle that answered all questions about Lyoto’s legitimacy as a middleweight contender. He is here to give champion Chris Weidman (11-0, 7-0 UFC) a serious run for his money.

SEMI MAIN EVENT WAS A SNOOZER!

In the co-main event, fellow Brazilian middleweight Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza (20-3-0-1, 3-0 UFC) got the decision nod over Francis Carmont (22-8, 6-1 UFC) in a fairly mediocre fight. Carmont exposed some serious holes in Souza’s striking game that have me thinking he does not beat the best of the best. I expected Carmont to be the one pushing for grappling, but he was the one engaging on the feet while Souza was concerned with taking the fight to the ground.

UFC ON FOX 10 WAS NOT A KEEPER!

January 26th, 2014 By Zak "Attack" Young

Josh "Burned Again" Thomson

Josh “Burned Again” Thomson

MOST THOUGHT THOMSON SHOULDA’ GOT THE CALL

Beverly Hills, CA- During and after the UFC On FOX 10 card, I’d knew I’ve seen both better fighting and officiating. The main event pitted lightweights (155 lb.), And with champion Anthony Pettis recovering from surgery, the UFC’s Saturday night FOX main was two-time Pettis victim by submission and ex-UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson (20-3, 8-1 UFC) getting a questionable decision over ex-Strikeforce champ Josh Thomson (20-6, 3-2 UFC) in the main event from Chicago.

HENDO NOTICEABLE BIGGER THAN JOSH

In a very lackluster fight, Henderson was given the benefit of the doubt, again, think of Henderson-Gilbert Melendez and Benson-Frankie Edgar, over a game Thompson who I thought should have been given the decision. It wasn’t a case of getting “underdog-idis, this was simply a fight that I thought Hendo was out worked clearly 3 of the 5 rounds.

Urijah “California Kid” Faber

IS THE UFC ROSTER STRONG STILL?

San Francisco, CA- “Ring Talk Worldwide,” the longest running fight show in history, 29+ years, featured in the UFC/MMA hour writer “Zak Attack” Young. We talked about the UFC being in transition with the retirement of both Georges St. Pierre (voluntary) and Anderson Silva (involuntary). And Zak doesn’t think for a minute that “The Spider” can come back at 38 after being knocked out cold and then having UFC champ Chris Weidman break Silva’s leg with a defensive move using his knee. Urijah “The California Kid” Faber and Ronda Rousey’s next fights were also discussed.

CHRIS WEIDMAN-RONDA ROUSEY WIN BIG AT UFC 168

December 28th, 2013 By Pedro Fernandez

OBITUARY OF ANDERSON SILVA IN PRINT

Look At Anderson Silva's Broken Leg!

Look At Anderson Silva’s Broken Leg!

San Francisco, CA- When Muhammad Ali stepped in with Larry Holmes in 1980, it was a 38-year old former champion faced a young tiger with whom he had no chance. Fast forward to 2013 and UFC legend Anderson Silva met Chris Weidman. Just like Ali, Silva didn’t look like he could pull the trigger that night.

WEIDMAN SHOWED FIRST FIGHT NO FLUKE!

Hurt a number of times by punches, elbows and forearms, Silva made it out of the first round, as did Weidman who was either stunned or gassed after the first five-minute round and looked confused. Still the round went 10-9 for Weidman.

SILVA’S LEG SNAPPED LIKE A TWIG!

The second round was somewhat uneventful until the 38-year old Silva threw a kick at Weidman who blocked it in such a manner that it broke Silva’s leg, like in half at the calf. Ugly, gruesome, call it what you want, Silva was done as far as the fight was concerned and his career is over period! Nobody comes back from an injury like that at his age.

UFC KING GEORGES ST. PIERRE VACATES TITLE

December 13th, 2013 By Pedro Fernandez

Georges St-Pierre

Georges St-Pierre

ST. PIERRE SMARTER THAN AVERAGE FIGHTER?

San Francisco, CA- Rarely does a fighter, be it boxing or MMA, walk away at the right time. With longtime UFC welterweight (170 lb.) champ Georges St. Pierre vacating his UFC welterweight (170 lb.), this after the controversial win over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 last month, St. Pierre is either going to take an extended leave from the UFC, or he’s done!

DANA WHITE SET STAGE FOR ST. PIERRE MOVE?

A lot of people, most importantly UFC czar & President Dana White thought St. Pierre, one of the UFC’s biggest stars had lost. Dana said after St. Pierre walked away with his title in hand that, “I thought GSP only won one round.” The now 32-year old Cannuck St. Pierre is a man with an incredible amount of pride. After taking a rap from Dana after the Split Decision win, he probably just said, “Screw this.”

AGAIN, ST. PIERRE NOT SURE IF HE’LL FIGHT AGAIN

With a record of 25-2 and both losses against Matt Hughes and Matt Serra having been avenged, there is nothing really left for the 11 year MMA superstar except defeat brought about by age and injuries. He said in a statement Friday that, “There’s too much weight on my shoulders.”
