DIAZ MAKES SHORT NIGHT OF IT

Miami, FL- Nick Diaz, Stockton, CA, 21-7, 12 KOs, 6 SUBs) KO 1 Marius Zaromskis, Siauliai, Lithuania, (13-4, 10 KOs, 1 SUB) Bad ass Nick Diaz just gets in your face and pitter pats away all night long until the accumulation of punches wears you down. His long reach and crazy angles only adds to the befuddlement. Zaromskis was able to score a few good shots and cut Diaz but that was about it. Diaz looked impressive and beat his foe at his own game and is the Strikeforce welterweight (170 lb) champion.

FEMALE KILLER NABS ANOTHER SCALP!

Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos, Brazil, (9-1, 7 KOs) TKO 3 Marloes Coenen, Deventer, Netherlands, 17-4, 3 KOs, 12 SUBs) Coenen put up a valiant effort against the seemingly unstoppable Cyborg Santos, but it wasn’t enough. Santos again showed that her biggest strength is her strength. She literally was able to throw Coenen around the ring and befuddled the dame from the Netherlands. I don’t see anyone on the horizon that will be able to take the title from the women’s champion Santos.

EX-NFL STAR A WINNER IN MMA!

Herschel Walker, Wrightsville, GA, (1-0, 1 KO) TKO 3 Greg Nagy, Tempe, AZ, (1-2, 1 KO). Being that one of my minors is in marketing, I should have known Strikeforce wouldn’t bring in anybody with a pulse to fight Walker. That being said, Walker did look good in his debut despite the lack of competition. If he can work on his finishing skills he could be a decent fighter even at 47 years of age. He will never be a championship caliber fighter, nor will he even reach contender status, but if he would have had the opportunity in his day some 25 years ago, he could have been an all time great.

ALWAYS EXCITING LAWLER PREVAILS

Robbie Lawler, Granite City, Illinois, (17-5, 14 KOs, 1 SUB) KO 1 Melvin Manhoef, Holland, 24-7, 23 KOs) This was one of the craziest fights I have ever seen. Robbie Lawler was being absolutely decimated by Manhoef for the entire first round. Lawler’s right leg was rubber from Manhoef’s devastating kicks; he was limping around the cage with a grimace on his face when out of nowhere he came out of his defensive shell with a counter right hook. Manhoef was caught square on the chin with his hands low and crashed to the canvas with Lawler following up with two more shots as the ref stepped in as Manhoef lay unconscious and twitching on the mat. I wouldn’t be surprised if Lawler has a fractured right leg from the kicks of Manhoef but regardless of the damaged leg, Lawler hobbled out with a win in a strange but impressive fashion.

PRO WRESTLING STAR LASHLEY REMAINS UNBEATEN

Bobby Lashley, Junction City, Kansas, (5-0, 2 KO, 2 SUBs) TKO 1 Wes Sims, Lancaster, Ohio, (22-13-1, 9 KOs, 11 SUBs). Lashley was able to handle the out of shape Wes Sims with ease by taking him down and pounding him out on the ground in the first round. Sims came in with just one weeks notice but I don’t think it would have mattered how much time he had to prepare; the results would have probably been the same. Lashley will look to slowly step up for his next three or four fights before looking for a title shot. The jury is still out as to weather he can hang with the top guys.

NO TV TIME FOR THIS ONE

In an off the air fight, Jay Hieron, Long Island, New York, 19-4, 6 KOs, 5 SUBs, won a unanimous decision over Joe Riggs, Phoenix, AZ, (32-11, 15 KOs, 14 SUBs) which could set up Hieron for a shot at Diaz’s title.
