Seth Mitchell-Chris Arreola

Seth Mitchell-Chris Arreola

San Francisco, CA- There is nothing quite like a heavyweight fight involving intrigue.  That being said, this Saturday Showtime Boxing emanating from Indio, CA and the Fantasy Springs Casino, will air heavyweights Chris Arreola and Seth Mitchell in a “loser leaves town” (and world nrankings) match.

Arreola, who jokingly claimed on the “Ring Talk Boxing Hour” two years ago that he trains on beer and visits his dietician at the taco truck, has discipline issues.  Fat one fight, sort of fat the next, slimmed down for a couple of scraps, and then back to being a fat boy.

Mitchell on the other hand is an Al Haymon sponsored heavyweight who in the minds of most knowledgeable pundits is a fraud! Mitchell, who turned pro at 25, is “learning on the job” and all you can take from his last three outings is that he isn’t a quick learner!

Getting hurt by Chazz Witherspoon before being drilled by Jonathan Banks, regardless of that recent rematch that had the smell of day old codfish to it, seeing Banks fought Mitchell like a man whose family was being held hostage at some undisclosed location.

Even though Arreola (35-3, 30 KOs) faced the better opposition, has the amateur pedigree that Seth does not, still there are many who feel Chris’ aforementioned lack of discipline will be the key to Mitchell getting his hand raised.

Racist Fight Fans

Racist Fight Fans Dig This

Having spent time in the bowels of the United States, places like Lula, Mississippi and Little Rock, Arkansas, I can tell you the “Klu Klux Klan” types like nothing better than to watch a Black and Mexican fighter clash.

This is a hard fight to handicap.  But if you look at all of the intangibles, it probably boils down to Arreola’s conditioning.  If he is in shape, he probably wins.  Should he stop at the taco truck on the way to the weigh in, then Seth Mitchell will probably outwork him. If you are looking for the reincarnation of Mike Tyson, Wladimir Klitschko or Muhammad Ali, better change the channel.

A real “loser leaves town” (top 10 rankings) match and the winner meets unbeaten 2008 Olympic Bronze medalist Deontay Wilder (29-0, 29 KOs) before the end of 2013.

  1. Mitchell is a fraud and should lose this fight badly if Arreola comes prepared. Wilder is also a fraud and will lose by brutal KO if he faces Arreola later in the year. Not that Arreola is that good but at least he is a real fighter and has fought real fighters. The other two are hype jobs. Why is Wilder ranked in the top 10? Completely ridiculous.

  2. Arreola should win this handily. I hate to say Mitchell sucks, but I will.

  3. It depends if the hypothetical racists are genuine boxing fans. If so, they will, like the rest of us, probably not be much interested in this mostly irrelevant matchup.

The only way I see race factoring into this match is that the Hispanic fan base that drives the sport these days allows Arreola to be dragged out again and again despite falling on his face in nearly every outing and never winning a big fight.

  4. Seth Mitchell is a bum. If you cannot take a punch, you won’t get far in this game unless you are Vladimir Klitschko and never trade punches, and have the height and reach to jab and stay out of danger. Mitchell should be on Friday night fights, at least Arreola has a chin and is willing to engage. The problem is that there are a few decent heavyweights, but none of them can beat the K brothers. Once the K brothers retire, I think we will see some decent and exciting heavyweight matches even though the combatants won’t be world class fighters. Bryant Jennings, Deontay Wilder, Amir Mansur, Stiverne, Haye if he stays in the game. I am looking for the next big name in the heavyweight division to bring some life back in it.

  5. Yes Pedro, Your analysis is right on the money. The other factor that may contribute to Chris’s performance is the injury he suffered in his last fight. His heart isn’t in question but the injury may affect his performance, hopefully not though. He has taken a fair amount of punishment and you never know when that catches up to you.

  6. If the winner gets Wilder, I sure hope it is Arreola because Mitchell is not a good “measuring stick”. I am not a believer in Wilder until he defeats a top guy. He has very good punching power but has yet to take pressure or big shots form someone who can “fight a little”. The jury is still out for me on him. I still remember his trainer Mark Breland and all the stiffs he fought to pad his KO record. When he did fight a few top guys, he didn’t fair quite as well. I don’t want to take anything away from his outstanding amateur career but that was part of his problem. He never developed a good pro style, He still looked like an amateur fighter for my money.

  7. It should be a fun fight to watch. Seth is in good shape but has a glass jaw and Arreola is a fat sloppy fighter with a good chin and power. A Mexican version of Tony Galento.

It just shows how thin for talent the Heavyweight division is. The Klit brothers can stay champs for at least another 10 years with fighters like Arreola and Seth around.

  8. Seth Mitchell is chinless. Arreola by KO.

  9. Everyman has a fighting chance. With that said, I think Arreola takes this one…To tough and relentless…One punch can change that though with these big men…Honestly, I wish I was able to see this but Fu**in time warner and showtime shannanigins… Intriguing fight…winner take on Deontay Wilder doesnt sound to bad to me!

  11. Mitchell will hopefully retire now. Manufactured by Al Haymon. The guy simply has no chin and has no business in there. Wilder is a complete fraud as well so hopefully he fights someone worth a damn soon and we can get rid of him too. Enough of this pushing of fraudulent fighters.
