August 5th, 2012 By Pedro FernandezROBERT GUERRERO “THE GHOST” ONE WEEK REMOVED FROM TITLE WIN
San Francisco, CA- When I departed the HP Pavilion some nine days ago (last Saturday), I was struck by the gritty performance put forth by Robert Guerrero (30-1, 19 KOs) in his interim WBC welterweight (147 lbs) title win over previously unbeaten Selcuk Aydin (23-1, 17 KOs). Look, I’m not saying that I didn’t expect Robert to win, I did. But what I found out was that despite a 15 month layoff, shoulder surgery on his power (left) side, and the fact that he was moving up two weight classes because Juan Manuel Marquez, the preiminent lightweight, wanted NO part of Guerrero. It got to the point where Robert was challenging anybody of note to fight him anywhere, and still there were no takers.
WBC WELTERWEIGHT STRAP MIGHT MAKE “GHOST” SOME MONEY
The WBC welterweight titleholder is the recently released from jail Floyd Mayweather. Although Robert had hoped to use the belt as leverage to get a fight with Floyd, who knows where Mayweather and his people are going next. All in all, I think you’ll find this extensive “Ring Talk Boxing Radio” interview with Guerrero one of those “must listen” moments. TO LISTEN NOW
