San Francisco, CA- There is nothing quite as difficult as rating fighters from different eras. That being said, the best fighter of the century, Manny Pacquiao will be called upon tomorrow night to slay the welterweight tough guy that is Joshua Clottey. No one can knock Clottey’s ability, as he can certainly fight a little bit. But when it comes time to “close the show,” this is where Joshua Clottey is lacking.

When I watch Clottey (38-2, 20 KOs) work, I sort of get the feeling he just doesn’t have what is known as the “killer instinct.” Even when he had an inflated & shot Diego Corrales in front of him back in April 2007, in what was Diego’s last fight before his death the following month, Joshua couldn’t, but should have stopped Corrales in his tracks in addition to dropping him twice. In reviewing his resume, prior to penning this, there is nothing there to make me not think that the “”sparring partner syndrome doesn’t apply here.

This fight was put together by Top Rank management. That being said, Joshua Clottey is a Top Rank fighter. This is a “win-win” situation for Top Rank for even if Clottey were to pull off a hail Mary, they would keep the rematch in house. That’s the worst case scenario. Anticipating the best, Pac beats Clottey and then comes the $64,000 question: Will Pacquiao accept steroid and EPO testing if that is a prerequisite to fighting either Floyd Mayweather or Shane Mosley?

Just because someone says something doesn’t make it true. None of the guys you named (Conte,Cintron,Malinaggi) have any inside information on if he is or isn’t. If they do they haven’t presented it.
In the case of Cintron and Malinaggi, they are lacking media attention through their own career achievements so they are simply trying to attract attention to themselves anyway they can by making these accusations.
I would like to see Pac take the tests, but i’m not going to form an opinion of him based on these clowns comments who are not qualified professionals in the medical field.
For Dave: Dave, you drop your guard after a shot, you’re going to get “countered”. First, Conte? when is he telling the truth (Do you know?) As far as Kermit and Paulie, they have no solid credentials to make that determination, only speculative opinion! Lastly, Ali, Hagler, and Leonard fought in the 20th century not the current 21st century that Pedro is referring to. Did you find it strange that Mayweather didn’t insist on the same testing format with Mosley (an admitted steroid user) that he did with Pacquiao? Tuck that chin and keep punching.

@ jjor: If a convicted bank robboer admits to more bank robberies after conviction, I believe that his creditability is enhanced due to the conviction and the police will listen because of it. Thus, Victor Conte’s expert opinion is credible to me. Malinaggi and Cintron were asked questions and gave their opinion. No, they are not experts but they are closer to the fight game than most fans giving their opinions, obvisously.
This post is for all the boxing fans that frequent this website (like a players only meeting). By now, you all know the tremendous response that Frances Martel’s article has generated. She “woke up” the silent majority and that’s who I would like to address. Please note: I’m as guilty of this as anyone. We read the different articles, they are well written, offer very good analysis, we agree with the majority of opinion and we do “NOTHING”. We need to do “SOMETHING”. Writing these articles is a “labor of love” for these guys and Pedro is at the top of the list, believe me! What we need to do much more of is:
1- Comment on the articles that we agree with the opinion of the writer, not just when we disagree (as was the case with Francis Martel’s article) We need to give these guys feedback on what they are writing. Give them credit for their analysis. Let them know that there is intelligent life out here.
2- Try and add your own insight in relationship to the suject matter of the article. Add your perspective and opinion (even if it’s wrong). That’s a joke! A lot of times there are fights on the undercard that deserve comment.
The bottom line is this: We need to support the boxing writers and promote the website. Make your voice heard in a respectful and intelligent manner. Don’t go back to sleep!!!!

Cintron? Well, in his fight with Alfredo Angulo, he weighed 169 LBS on fight night? 169 for a welterwight prior to this bout? He must be on something. You know what I mean? That’s a whopping 22 LBS in a few months. WOW! Pacman, fighting weight has never reached 150 LBS. That is even less than what these moron fighters gained. Whew, I say Kermit Cintron is the one using some steroid or HGH. From 147 to 169, he’s got to be using some growth hormone. Or probably, he, Maggotlagni, Floydie and Contie(sa) are just plain growing with jealous fits of hormones.
Can the haters produce at least the level of Floyd’s Xylocaine to prove Pacquiao is on anything? Until someone can put up, the steroid issue is a ghost Mayweathers created that they were afraid of. Yes, other people has said that Pacquiao is on steroids but had they said prior to the accusations of the Mayweathers, then their opinions may have merit. They only said to echo the Mayweathers hoping that their ass-kissing will land them a fight with PBF.
Look guys the effects of steroids and epo are overrated. Just look at the cases of Mosley, Vargas and Toney. Mosley barely squeezed past OLDH, Vargas was stopped by Oscar and Toney, well he won over Ruiz but not in spectacular fashion over one of the least regarded champions in the heavyweight division. Both Mosley and Vargas were not outsized by OLDH and Ruiz was not a big heavyweight. Manny has stopped his last four opponents in impressive performances, all of them naturally bigger than him.
And now this guy Malinaggi, do any of you seriously believe that even if this loudmouth is juiced up or pumped full of steroids, would be a serious threat to any decent middleweight out there? Could he even go up against the likes of Andre Berto and dent this guy’s shaky chin?

i would like to thank you all guys for the contributions, they have been mature and i respect that. The only big question that bothers me is that how can someone refuse a test and with it around 40 million dollars. They will just take a teaspoon of blood and that will not hamper you in any way. guys, lets get rid of the wool in our eyes and lets be objective for a minute. look at all the excuses Pacquio has been making trying to avoid the test, excuse aftr excuse. We all know he took the blood tests before the Hatton fight but people forget what the blood test was for. The blood test was for hepatitis and HIV not steroid use.I bet he would have refused if the test were for steroids.
The other important point is that Pacquio is not refusing to take the blood tests, he wants the blood tests on certain days. The question i have is why, why on certain days. Thats why i have problems with him
i havent been a fan of Mayweather but i think he needs to be commended here. We all know Bob Arum controls boxing and he wants his boxers to get away with cheating, Margarito, Pacquio and i hear Chavez tested positive in his last fight. We might have our differences with Mayweather but i think we need to salute him for the stand he is making. In his fight with Mosley hey wont be doubts about steroid. Mosley is taking the test while Pacman not., why?. , the answer is simple. Mosley admitted to have used illegal drugs before as confessed by bay area Balco’s Conte. And this is even more revealing than the 14 days before the fight or for any random testing before the fight. So what’s the argument on Floyd insisting on his own rules other than what the governing rules of the boxing commission of the state requires for??? Mayweather and his clan are just afraid of Manny!

If indeed Pacquiao uses steroids (of course, the fact is no proof can be presented even by the most competent investigator) why then those top boxers proven to be using steroids cannot achieve what Pacquiao has accomplished? These steroids users and xyclocaine users are below Pacquiao’s greatness and popularity? Even the authorized boxing regulator NSAC failed to establish Pacquiao using steroids for all his fights in Nevada. Making allegations that Pacquiao uses steroids does not make the allegation true. Some c-class fighters say their piece against Pacquiao because they cannot get a good measure of media attention just based on their performance on top of the ring. Drop dead Cintron and Malignaggi. 2. if he really wants the procedure, he should have gone to the nevada state commission. but the fact that he didnt only shows he is only playing the situation.
(pacquiao agreed on whatever the nevada state commission will implement.)
3. manny did not drop floyd. floyd set the scheme so the negotiations would fail.
if floyd really was interested in the blood test, manny already agreed on the 24 day period and the right after the fight. whats the difference with floyds 14 day demand? ( the right after the fight is the most suitable blood test we can see here, why did floyd not take that instead)
floyd played the negotiation, even if manny agrees on the 14 day floyd will look for another and demand something else. but floyd is not even in the position for all this demands. he is a nobody here.

First of all, let’s examine the facts. Before the PED accusations, people, even the boxing analysts thought that Mayweather may win over Pacman. So does the gamblers in Vegas. In short, people still favored Floyd. Why? Because he is naturally bigger than Pacman, and he is a defensive genious. And respect him or not, he is the guy to beat. Now, Pacman knows this. So he won’t give him any un-needed disadvantage. In case you don’t see this, the PED accusation was merely a mind game from Floyd. It wasn’t suppose to ruin the negotiations. He just wanted to bully Pacman, to get to his skin. Pacman is a WORK HORSE. He trains like no other man, and it is well documented. To insist on Random blood testing, it’s not to see if he’s on PED, it’s to disrupt his training, by getting blood, anytime, anywhere, even in the middle of the night. Remember, Pacman agreed to unlimited urine testing, and have his blood taken, immediately after the fight. And as someone stated, even if he IS using steriods, this doesn’t make you fast. Pacman’s wins over these elite opponents is because of new techniques or skill. He has continued to improve. No PEDs can help you with that. With regards to the 40 million question, it’s not always about the money. Pacman, if he let’s Floyd do it his way, and Pacman loses, that 40 million will be nothing, when you get Floyd to repeatedly say he beat Pacman. If I was Pacman, I won’t fight this guy, just so he can’t have 40 million. I can get that myself from other means. Remember, it is much more cheaper to live in the Philippines than in the US. Oh, also, don’t forget that during the negotiations in December-January, Pacman needed an opponent immediately, because he has to fight in March, with elections in May (he is running for congress). If he continues to deal with Mayweather, the fight maybe be postponed (See Marquez fight) or the signature may be postponed (see the Mosley fight signature, even his promoters were getting angry because he took so long to sign the contract). Let’s leave the PED issue in the trash. We have a legend fighting, and until he is proven by FACT to be unclean, then, let’s not pull him down…

To the Pacquiao accusers, all you really have are allegations and suspicions. Only Pacquiao knows the truth and maybe a couple more if he is really into ‘roids (such as the supplier and maybe someone else who could keep a secret for him.)
I will give him the benefit of the doubt, innocent unless proven guilty. I find it unfair that he be accused of using something illegal just because he is performing very well. If he’s clean (as he maintains he is), he can die in peace knowing he is telling the truth and he hasn’t done anything illegal. For the accusers, let them carry to their graves their suspicions (belief?), Manny wouldn’t give you the satisfaction of having to prove himself to erase doubts in your mind. For now I will believe him when he says he’s clean. For one, it is not easy to lie and at the same time invoke the name of God.
If he’s not, I am sure truth will come out. If not now then maybe later…20, maybe 30 yrs from now. He has to have a supplier, maybe a middleman and during training, he’s with about 10 people living with him in his apartment. If he did anything illegal, someone would know.

Sorry, but I don’t know what specific article you are talking about? I’m not sure exactly what you are trying to say, and that may be my fault, but I’ll try and respond accordingly. Your points:
#1-You don’t understand “woke up”. It’s an expression, not to be interpreted literally. I meant exactly what you said (read my post on her article).
#2-Again, “labor of love” is an expression, which by your response, I don’t think you understand? I read most of the articles posted here and have only been truly insulted by the Frances Martel article on Mar. 10th. Note: I had only read 1 article by her before and only 1/2 of this article, that was enough for me!
#3-I personally don’t have a problem with articles or opinions that don’t necessarily agree with my opinion. For my money, the other writers on this website do a fine job. You would have to be more specific for me to critcize a particular article.

If you have read my posts, you know that I do not support the premise that Pacquiao is on steroids. When someone can provide definitive proof, I will accept it, until then, I refuse to accept purely speculative opinion based on conjecture!
Pacquiao is innocent until proven guilty with regards to PED’s. Sure we have the right to be suspicious as PED abusers have been coming out of the woodwork lately. Personally, I think Pacquiao is just one of those naturally ripped dudes. There are a small percentage of boxers with this genetic gift, and Pacquiao is one of them. What will be interesting tonight is how Pacquiao performs with these allegations hanging over his head. He seems like the type of person who thrives on controversy, so I’m assuming it won’t interfere with his performance. Very tough opponent in Clottey, who is a very live underdog. If Pacquiao once again exceeds expectations and stops/ko’s Clottey then he truly is something special, and then I would actually give him a chance against Mayweather.
I BELIEVE PACMAN IS A PED USER!
PED is the only way Pacquiao can win a single fight. He uses PED to strengthen himself against his foe but this is not the banned substance (PED) like the XYLOCAINE substance that Floyd Mayweather was using instead it’s the PRAY EVERY DAY (PED).
Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, who promotes Pacquiao, said the comments made by the Mayweathers regarding A-Side-Meth, Steroids, etc. are “laughable”. He thinks it’s a sad situation because the Mayweathers believe their own comments. “I think this only demonstrates just how scared the Mayweather family is of this kid. I think they really believe that sh*t. Some stuff from the military, what the f**k the Mayweathers are talking about? To me, it’s a total craziness. They are just scared out of their minds, Arum said.
“When I say Pacquiao is the greatest fighter that I’ve ever seen, I believe it. They search for some reason to discredit that and come up with a fairy tale. Next they’ll say Pacquiao is not really from the Philippines! They’ll say he’s from planet KRYPTON and has kryptonite in him. They have turned Manny into SUPERMAN”.
“When I pressed Floyd Sr. for an answer on what exactly Pacquiao was allegedly taking to fight in such spectacular fashion, he began to tell some rumors that pertain to performance enhancer being used by the military. He said “It’s not steroid it’s something from the Philippines. Something they use in the army. When you hit the guy with a .45 or a .38 caliber they keep coming after they get shot. Whatever it is it has to be something strong for you to keep coming forward after you get shot” so I advised him to take this information to Washington. I heard the same thing from Roger.
“If they really believe that it’s true, then how come he’s the only fighter from the Philippines who is so blessed. How come in the whole history of the Olympics, there has not been a single Filipino athlete who owns a gold medal? This is like some of the people that swear the aliens have landed. Maybe that’s what it is. Maybe Manny was really an alien that landed in the Philippines and came to the United States. If the Mayweathers have an information about something like that, then they have obligation to go to Washington and speak to the Chief of Staff so we can get some of that so our troops don’t continue to get killed. That’s big news, they should take that information to Washington”. Arum continued that comments made by the Mayweathers are practically “comedy”.

1. hoya is old
2. diaz is nobody
3. hatton is made for pac
4. cotto was battered
5. now…clottey is also made for pac
so, whats the truth? pac beat all those guys because of the above reasons or pac beat them because of roids? Also, pac has 3 losses, almost lost to JMM 2x, while PBF is undefeated, maybe PBF is the one on roids, cause he is the w/out a loss, or maybe he really cherry picks his opponents

all these emails and all these arguments can be addressed by a small procedure. A procedure that involves taking a spoon of blood and having it tested. when we see our doctors we give blood, people who are diabetic have to have their blood tested on a daily basis. All these rumours can be addressed very easily . the big question is why avoiding that small procedure
if you are throwing punches with such high intensity and getting stronger as the fight progresses, that defies logic. after watching the fight against Cotto, it proved o me that Pac is taking steroids. How can someone punch so much in a fight and not be affected by those punches from Clottey

The rumors were heightened when video footage showed the pound-for-pound king’s wife, Jinkee Pacquiao, shedding tears while the couple was attending a Thanksgiving Mass last Sunday.
In the clip, Jinkee is seen breaking into sobs after healing priest Fr. Joey Faller said in his homily, “We can only hurt those people whom we love so much, our husband, our wife … give us the peace we need at this point.” She turned away from her husband when he attempted to console her, and instead sought comfort from a friend standing next to her.
Did Jinkee cry because of the boxing champ’s supposed philandering ways? Pacquiao does not think so. “Naiyak lang, pero okay naman,” Pacquiao told GMA News reporter Mariz Umali.
Pacquiao had kept mum on the issue, saying only “no comment” to those who have been asking him about the real score between him and Krista, his co-star in their upcoming film “Wapakman.”
But on Wednesday, Krista finally broke her silence.
“Yeah, heard about it (rumors) already … we’re still discussing when and how to speak,” Krista wrote during an Internet chat with GMA News entertainment reporter Nelson Canlas. In his report, Canlas quoted Krista as saying that she is not pregnant.
Meanwhile, her manager Arnold Vegafria said their camp would confront the matter when they return to the Philippines. “I’m now in Paris and Krista is now in the United States. But we spoke kanina and we’ll talk about how we’re going to handle all these allegations sa kanya. So when I get back, we’ll hold a presscon para to answer all the allegations sa kanya na mga negative,” Vegafria said
Why do Roach & Pacfans continue to insist that the NSAC should change the rule, when the NSAC already ruled that “extra” testing is an issue to be decided by the 2 parties involved (look it up). Translation, the “Cartel” doesn’t care about PED’s as long as they get their cut. They only way to truly find out if ANYONE is using is to do “RANDOM” testing. I hope Pac isn’t using, because it would truly break his fans hearts, and the suicide rate may go up. Dencio, stop running from me.

dave: What Manny does outside the ring is his business. What Floyd does outside the ring is his business. I just want them to get it on so we can see who is the better man. We (you, me and everyone else) all fall short of the glory of God, and it’s not our place to judge any man. All we want to see is a fair fight and see who the true P4P king is. I still think it’s a moot point because I believe Shane has the tools to beat Floyd. I think he will be the first true welter that will make Floyd actually fight and exchange. If Floyd tries to win the fight by just throwing pot shots like he always does, he will lose by a decision. If he is forced to trade and exchange I think he gets slumped. Shane will not allow Floyd to sit back and throw one punch at at time (ala Roy Jones Jr.). He will make Floyd fight for 12 rounds if it goes that long. I believe Floyd is in for a long night. Mosley by decision or late round stoppage(by a left hook as Floyd goes into his shell)!

Just tell me straight, if u think pac is on roids, & the fight with may happened, would that be a guarantee that pac would win ? No! in fact its a win-win situation from PBF, he can always say that he beat a man on roids OR he can say that he lost because his opponent is on roids.
