CANELO ALVAREZ-FLOYD MAYWEATHER “FIGHT OF 2013″
Saturday, September 14, 2013
Las Vegas, NV- MGM Grand (Showtime PPV) Champion Saul Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KOs) vs. Floyd “Mexecutioner” Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KOs) (WBC/WBA 154 lb. titles set for 152 lbs). Odds/Prediction: Mayweather 3 to 1. With people getting good odds and Mayweather being 36, in addition to his being hated by some, people are betting Alvarez. Just like they threw their money away on JC Chavez Sr. vs. Oscar De La Hoya I in 1996, and the Oscar fans backing Oscar as an underdog against middleweight kingpin Bernard Hopkins.
LONG LINES OF MEXICANS PRE-FIGHT BUT NOT POST FIGHT
Sports fans betting with their hearts and on underdogs at that, have made Las Vegas casinos zillions of dollars. That being said, you can bet those backing Alvarez will once again be standing in line to make sports book donations. Floyd Mayweather is the supreme fighter, actually superior boxer here, and will utilize his edge in boxing talent that will force Canelo to lunge and get popped hard enough to make him realize his error.
ONCE CANELO GETS “FIGURED OUT” IS IT OVER?
At that point, the match should be over and Mayweather owns him for a points win. Floyd could possibly stop Alvarez should Canelo get too reckless. Only “Father Time” could beat Floyd in this fight. Oh, if Floyd gets him hurt, I expect him to go for it. Dropping $3,000 on Mayweather to walk with $4000 because the PPV alone is $75 for HD TV and the kids need shoes.
FIRST LAS VEGAS BORN CHAMP ISHE SMITH & CARLOS MOLINA RUMBLE
Champion Ishe Smith (25-5, 11 KOs) vs Carlos Molina (21-5-2, 6 KOs) (IBF 154 lb. title) Odds/Prediction: Smith 8-5. Molina can fight, but he can’t punch much with six whacks in 28 outings. Ishe Smith, a member of that original The Contender NBC TV series, knows how to scrap as well. He carries heavier hands than Molina, boxes better and is Mayweather’s guy. May the best man win, but Ishe Smith is the choice here. Pass on wager.
DANNY GARCIA PUTS TITLE WHERE THE MONEY IS!
World 140 lb. champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KOS) vs. Lucas Martin Matthysse (34-2, 32 KOs) Odds/Prediction: Lucas 9-5. Have to go with the “power factor” here as the Argentine will get through Garcia’s guard and prevail before 36 minutes of battle is complete. Danny has his backers, some ardent, but this fight probably won’t last the distance and Argentina will have a new national icon. Argentina is calling to the tune of $1,800 to net $2,800.
