TYSON-HOLYFIELD TO FIGHT THIS YEAR!

March 5th, 2010 By Pedro Fernandez

KING WILL DELIVER BOTH MEN SANS DIFFICULTY

San Francisco, CA- Having been putting things together for a look at the 2010 version of Don King, I was starting to think that the wirehaired wonder, now 78 and seemingly finished as a major player in sports en for all intents and purposes as a major force in boxing, I was wondering how would King, who burst on the scene with the Rumble In The Jungle, Ali vs. George Foreman, what would be his swan song? It turns out that Mike Tyson-Evander Holyfield III is nearly certain to happen later this year.

DK MAKING NOISE IN UNCASVILLE!

King, who is in Uncasville, CT for a show in at the Mohegan Sun Casino sort of let the cat out of the bag in one of his media rants as he tries to stoke interest in Devon Alexander-Juan Urrango, the HBO Boxing After Dark main event tomorrow night. Tyson bit Holyfield in a 1997 rematch after losing a 1996 fight via TKO. At this point and time you may have either laughed real hard or shook your head in disgust. Either way one views this match up of the amateur class of 1984, it is certain to be a huge moneymaker for the principles, Tyson, Holyfield, and lest not forget DK himself. Where else could Mike or Evander make an easy $10 million each in this day and time?

TYSON NEED NOT LOOK LIKE TONEY SANS JUICE

In order to really sell this fight on PPV to a demographic beyond the boxing world via pay per view, Tyson will need to get himself in shape. If he shows up looking like James Toney, who is also in the news this AM, all fat and sloppy, nobody will take it seriously. We know Tyson still matters as this was proven when he made two appearances on the Oprah Winfrey show last year that were Oprah’s best ratings for 2009.

ONLY UNCLE SAM COULD STOP FIGHT

The only one who can stop this fight from happening is the IRS, to whom Tyson is said to owe a huge chunk of change in back taxes. In other words, Mike’s not going to fight for free. For the record, Tyson is 43 and last fought in 2005. Holyfield is 48 and saw some action in 2009.

WOULD YOU WANT TO WATCH THIS?

Having contacted a small number of the boxing populace, I found that while they were all talking smack, the overwhelming consensus was that that the “car accident” syndrome applies in that you can’t let it go by without taking a look. What about you? See you at Holyfield-Tyson III.

  1. Dear Sir:

ARe you really kidding me or what? What is Don King smoking or snorting? Mike Tyson against Holyfield, that is the most ridiculous, outrageous, ripoff of the boxing public that I have seen since Butter Bean called himself the Heavyweight Champion of the world…….. What a ripoff. I wouldn’t spend YOUR money to see two dead dinosaurs huffing and puffing in the ring………. YOU must be kidding?

  2. Mike is in on the Itailian version of dancing with the stars and he lost all that weight ,he looks to be in pretty good shape. If he can throw that straight right thats the key to dismantle Holyfield .And yes I am a Tyson fan ….lol

  5. Sir, I agree with Orangupain. Reading this article I felt like a police switchboard operator who gets a late night phonecall that two guys named Mike and Don are planning to rob the town credit union. We all know that Mike is going to come into the ring a blob. He’ll want to quit as soon as possible and abscond with the fans’ money. (The rub is that most fans earn their money paycheck by paycheck for honest work. Some fans earn their money $100 or so at a time for back-breaking labor.) I only hope that Holyfield gives Tyson the beating that I know Holyfield can still dish out to guys who don’t move their feet or fight back effectively.

  6. How sad. I am by no means a Tyson sympathizer but this is a disgrace. Evander will pulverize him. Evander barely lost to Valuev last year; Tyson got stopped several years ago by Kevin McBride.

  12. People like you guys makes boxing a dying sport…you wouldn’t see this fight but you wouldn’t mind watching randy coutures ugly old ass fight? 13. Just Don King being Don King… Trying to take advantage of fighters and make a quick buck. He’s trying to exploit fighters who are 1 million miles past their prime. These two would hug each other more in one fight than a koala bear hugs a tree in a whole year. These washed up fighters need to just retire and mike tyson should apply for a showtime or hbo commentating job. Tyson would be great as a commentator because he is a student of the great cus d’amato, teddy atlas and kevin rooney and would offer great insight on the fights.

  14. Hell tony, let’s add B-Hop and Jones jr. and make it a co-feature, anyone know what Haugen and Pazienza are up to these days?

David on March 6th, 2010 at 12:24 AM
  15. people who “love boxing” would never contribute $50 to this garbage. things like this are what make boxing a dying sport. this is pathetic. this isn’t good boxing.

  16. Pedro would have to be pretty bored to cook this one up as a put on. So, it must be true!

Antonino on March 6th, 2010 at 6:21 PM
  17. Tyson will smoke Holyfield in ONE! — After that Lennox Lewis will come out of retirement and get smoked in one round. After that Tyson will smoke both of the Klitschko brothers in one round! On the same night! And then he will… pant, pant, pant…

I hope I just saved every delusional Tyson worshiper / lemming of the past 20 years the trouble with that rant.

The fight itself… Why not? — Both guys need money. There are scores of morons out there who will to pay $50 to see it… Let Holy and Mike make a few bucks off them.

  18. holyfield is more active than tyson.. tyson needs to do more tune up fights. i wanna see what he has to offer if he still has got it. then the fight with holyfield will look like the event it is meant to be.

  22. Sure, I’m up for watching Holyfield throw Tyson a beating again. This time the Ref shouldn’t be so quick to jump in and stop it, so that Holyfield can put Tyson through the ring….

  23. I think if tyson & holyfield got in shape it would be a good fight
