MANNY PACQUIAO NEEDS TO DEFINE HIMSELF!
October 24th, 2011 By Pedro Fernandez
MANNY NEEDS TO BE MORE THAN A BOXER
San Francisco, CA- I often sit back and wonder about the great accomplishments Muhammad Ali or even Joe Louis could have made if they were a member of the United States Congress. Seeing Louis was the “most” popular American circa 1940, Joe could have advanced racial equality, but truth be told, Joe wasn’t very smart. Ali on the other hand, had he been elected to Congress, Muhammad would have told it like it was!
PACQUIAO DUMB LIKE JOE LOUIS?
Looking at Manny Pacquiao and his position as a member of the Philippine Congress, a position he paid over $20 dollars U.S. per vote to win, I see him as intellectually impotent as Joe Louis. Yeah, they are going to run him for President on the Conservative ticket in 2016,
but what qualifications does he have other than his being a celebrity boxer without a high school diploma, no college, except the one of hard knocks, and he just recently passed a “High School Proficiency” test, a GED, a certificate comic Chris Rock calls, “Good Enough (For A) Diploma.”
ALTHOUGH SOME WOMEN HAVE POWER, OTHERS HAVE S*IT!
Having always believed in equal rights, be it ethnically, sexually, and a firm believer in women’s rights, what are the Pacman’s views on these subjects. This year he stated that, “Using condoms is a sin.” Seeing he is like God in his native Philippines and to Filipinos worldwide, I wonder how many unwanted pregnancies, or worse, sexually transmitted diseases that his diatribe could have caused? Coming from a man who cheated on his wife on more than one occasion, and then having his wife admit to using birth control, Manny the poitician is a contradiction to Manny the man.
THOUSANDS OF FILIPINO MEN LIVE “DOUBLE LIVES” IN USA
One of the biggest atrocities inflicted on women in the Philippines is they cannot divorce, unless they have a lot, and I mean a lot of money. The men, a good many of them get passports, come to the United States and leave their wives and kids living in squaller. Statistically, I’ve read this many times, the Catholic Religion driven Filipino citizenry per capita leads the world in adultery! When I met former Philippine President Corazon Aquino in 1986 here in San Francisco, I remember a media member (female) asking her about women’s rights in her country. Mrs. Aquino promised reform and that women’s rights would be part of her presidency. She failed to deliver!
BETTER NOT ASK MANNY WHAT HIS FAVORITE CONDOM IS!
The reason there is a “Joe Louis Punch” advertisement at the top of this article is that when his soda was on the market, a ringside broadcaster asked Joe what his favorite soda pop was? Joe lamely responded, “Coca Cola.” Somebody should put the same question to Manny Pacquiao about condoms and see what he says!

Pedro, I thought you were into health; did you take up smoking the marywanna like all the hippies out there in San Franciso do? Are you gonna grow your hair long and shaggy and start taking trips on LSD next?!
RE “Manny needs to define himself and be more than a boxer”?!!
That’s EXACTLY what Pacquiao’s already done; it’s why he’s become a cross-cultural icon, and he’s an international icon because he’s been so much more than a boxer! The man’s become a symbol at this point.
Icons like Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, and Muhammad Ali transcended the sport because they became symbols of things that were bigger than boxing, and they were so much more than mere sportsmen, and Pacquiao takes his place in that very exclusive club (which by the way, lil floid will NEVER, EVER be a part of).
Ouch!. Sometimes the truth hurts. I think Manny is a great man amongst men, but I don’t think to many people, specifically i the Philippines take his word as gospel. As a matter of fact, you would be hardpressed to find ANY filipino that trusts what a filipino politician has to say! The reason Manny is revered in the Philippines is the fact he fights like a true warrior, is very humble and gives back to the needy, and the fact many can relate to the struggles that he himself went through, literally becoming somewhat a slumdog millionaire! Trust me, the attrocities painted in that movie can be applied to many of the third world countries around the world. Manny may not be the smartest man in the world or the most honest, but most men come up short to what this one man has achieved in all aspects of life. His warrior spirit, how he carries himself and where he came from is why people rever Manny Pacquiao. Not for his wisdom orpolitical career.
You have a lot of Manny Pac fans on this website. Ask them the question, how many of u folks are now gonna stick it in bareback (no condom) because Manny Pacquaio considers it a sin?? LMAO…can’w
Manny beats people up for a living, how smart do you expect any boxer to be? When Ali called Joe Frazier a white man before the first fight and a n*gg*r (gorilla) before the third fight, was that an example of how he’d have told it like it was?
“but what qualifications does he have other than his being a celebrity boxer”
How often do we ask the same question about who we run? And what is the normal answer we get… HE’S ELECTABLE! — One American to another Pedro, may I call you utter the word POT… The KETTLE being over in the P.I.s.
You’ve been around the block Pedro, you live in the state that elected Arnold Schwarzenegger in a state controlled by an opposing party from top to bottom… Everyone knows why Arnold was elected… And it had little to nothing to do with his policies… If people were policy driven, McClintoc would have been the Governer… The ‘onion heads’ lined up in mass to pull a lever because Schwarzenegger played ‘Conan The Barbarian’ in a movie. They lined up in mass because he said “I’ll Be Back!”. They lined up in mass because he abused steroids to the point where it gained him athletic prowess and fame to the point where he crossed over and decided that politics was his next step.
Frankly, the only difference between Ahhhhnie and Mahhhhnie… Is What sport they were in when they roided their faces off to prominance and the Screene Actors Guild card.
Manny can be a failure in your eyes in just about everything. Guess what? You don’t vote in the P.I.s and what you think doesn’t matter to the citizens of the P.I’s.
I mean I hate to be a jerk and say it like it is but why stop at Manny and the P.I’s? Why not climb aboard an airplane, fly to Theran, get off there with your current lady on your arm all dolled up and demand that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad pull his head out of his ass, get with the times and fix the whole Islamic Sharia Law thing when it comes to women?
Did Manny run on some platform of Women’s Rights? Is this some cause he champions?
The P.I.s are a Constitutional Republic with a pretty massive Senate. Seems to me you are taking shots at Manny when you could just as easily look at any single sitting Congressman over here and say… The country 1.4 Trillion over in this year’s Budget alone. Why did YOU do this? And why haven’t YOU solved the problem?
… It doesn’t work that way.
no one can beat manny on the boxing ring so people that hate and envy him resort to other topics not related to the sports of boxing. pity them.
Travis, you are an idiot. He is a Philippine Congressman poised to run for President. I pity your lack of sarts and the fact that you can’t see the an being the ring.
u already hate and envy him pedro when he is still not a congressman… thats a fact.
Travis, don’t make yourself look any dumber here than Joe Louis did with Coca Cola.
“You’re being extremely truculent.” – Howard Cosell
“Whatever truculent means, if it’s good, I’m that.” – Muhammad Ali
So Muhammad Ali and Joe Louis are being interviewed, and Ali tells Joe that Joe fought all of them bums when he went on that Bum-of-the-Month tour.
Louis-”You would’ve been on that tour.”
Ali -”You callin’ me a bum?!”
Louis -”No,…, but you would’ve been on that tour.”
why do u hate and envy pacquaio that much man?
it started during the finkel days pedro. thats a fact.
once a rocker, always a rocker – joe perry
once a hater, always a hater – pedro fernandez
i know pedro u’ll delete this message. the truth hurts.
Pedro, I have enjoyed your views and site for many years which touch on a variety of topics. I always enjoy the way that you express your opinion, which I admire, especially in an industry full of websites that kiss a$$ in order to gain access.
However, I am just curious to know why all of the posts condemning Pacquiao and the Filipino people. I think most educated people agree that Pacquiao is an unbelievalble talent inside the ring but not the man the media perceives him to be nor is he is the brightest bulb out there. Oscar De La Hoya or Walter Payton were not who they were perceived to be nor was the late great Martin Luther King Jr. He, like most of us, is full of contradictions and I do not believe any athlete especially boxers who get punched for a living are qualified to be a politician. I know you deal with many Pactards on a day to day basis but I hope that deep down you do not believe that most Filipinos are Pacquiao worshipping lunatics who do nothing for mankind. Take care Pedro and I look forward to more of your site.
Pretty simple ot see why Pedro threw out this line. Most of the recent articles didnt have enough of a bite so he’s trolling for hits and he knows he can get it with a Pac article.
Ya know Pedro, Manny was born dirt poor, probably missed most of school so now you want to fault him for his religious beliefs and the fact he isnt the sharpest tool in the shed. You will stoop to any level for comments won’t you?
As far as his Presidential run, hopefully he sticks to just being a congressman and no more than that. Just as Arnold won the Governorship of CA. becasue he was a celebrity, there are times the Filipino people elect someone for the same reason. Look at a previous Filipino President Eric Estrada, he was only an actor.
Our own POTUS, Barrack Obama won because of his “Hope and Change” message, how he would change Washington and how he was really an outsider, not to mention people were fed up with our Congress and current POTUS and wanted a change. If you have likeability and charisma it seems thats 50% of the battle.
The best person does not always win, look at how long Pelosi’s been in Congress. You would think people would eventually learn.
Hey people need to realize how big Manny is.If he wasnt, this type of converstion about him would be unheard and unthought of.So Pac fans relax your man made it.
Pedro, take a shot at Pacquiao and I’m fine with that even if I’m a huge PAC fan. Stop insulting the Filipino people like we’re a bunch of blind fanatics taking all of Pacquiao’s words like a gospel. Insulting other people’s intelligence does not make you intelligent.
Just because Pacquiao can’t express himself freely in English some people assume that he’s dumb. He is not the most intelligent person in the planet but PAC is street smart. He has inspired people to persevere in life because he served as an inspiration to them. That in itself is huge accomplishment, an accomplishment that PEDRO can only dream of. I will not vote for him as a president, the same way most mature voters won’t but he will continue to serve as an inspiration.
Joe Louis, dumb as he was, was able to lift the spirits of the entire nation of America knocking out Max Schmelling especially at a time when morale was very much needed. Is that an accomplishment of a dumb person? In this world, there are really dumb people who cannot be helped even with money to send them to school, they’ll stay dumb, and that includes Pacquiao and Louis (if they are dumb indeed), but what they contribute positively to society is much more than what many smartass can accomplish. Many times, being dumb cannot be faulted to the person.
Tony,
Don’t confuse integrity with intelligence… I respect and admire Joe Louis as a man and a fighter… But he was used and abused by the government of this country in a way that can best be described by the term “Useful Idiot”.
Useful Idiot is the term Karl Marx used to describe an uneducated mass of people that accomplished a goal of political puppet-masters. Marx was a Communist and America allegedly shunned the practices set forth; but to attempt making an argument that the American Government did not treat Joe Louis exactly like a Useful Idiot is… Simply not true.
Joe Louis, IMO should have seen this coming. I’m a stupid white guy who grew up after the Civil Rights movement and even I could have seen what was coming to Joe Louis… Considering the racial atmosphere of the time.
The events that bedeviled Joe Louis would NEVER have happened to Muhammad Ali (aka Cassius Clay)and while it may be convenient to say “Yeah, but Ali had Louis to look back on” … There is NO WAY that Jack Johnson would have fallen into the trap Louis did either and he came before Louis.
The night you speak of, where he beat Schmelling… Did you know that white people (Americans) were spitting on him and calling him a NIGGER on his way into the ring that night?
This fantasy you have of America needing morale that was given to them by Louis’ victory over Schmelling… You do know what year that fight took place in don’t you? You DO understand what was going on at this time don’t you?
Manny Pacquiao cant run for the presidency in the Philippines in 2016 because he wouldn’t be old enough. I consider myself a huge pacman fan (and penalosa and espinosa) growing up. I dont necessarily agree with his stance on the reproductive health bill but he certainly isn’t dumb. A lot of men live double lives from a lot of countries..not just the filipinos. sometimes it doesnt even have to be a different country…a different neighbourhood/post code would do!
