IF BOXING WAS SQUARE LIKE THE RING!

Mobster Frankie Carbo

IN A PERFECT BOXING WORLD

Los Angeles, CA- In a rightous world, Tavoris Cloud would’ve handed over his IBF belt to Gabriel Campillo on Saturday night and said, “You’re the champion and I want a rematch to win my belt back.”

THE PERFECT WORLD CONTINUED

Judging would be delegated to the most qualified officials in title fights. There would be a National Boxing Commission. The best fights would be on national television. America would have better heavyweights.

WAIT, I’M NOT DONE YET!

There would be more boxing gyms, some might not even charge $100 a month. Far less fights on Pay Per View. More fights in Los Angeles. A plethora of quality trainers. Better quality fighters. I can go on and on, but I’m sure you get the picture already. Much like a bullet-riddled man, how much longer can boxing live without intervention?

MY PARTING SHOT!

After watching the criminal scoring that resulted in Paul Williams getting the nod over Erislandy Lara last year and Tavoris Cloud winning a split decision over Gabriel Campillo, I have to ask is boxing any different today that it was when Mafioso Frankie “Mr. Gray” Carbo ruled the sport in the 50s?

  1. Yup Cloud didn’t deserve the decision nor did Williams against Lara, but IMO, no way is boxing the same as it was in the 50s.

  3. more fights in l.a. is right but ppv caliber fights. l.a. instead of vegas. probably won’t happen but it should. they have some good stadiums and arenas out there and more capacity so more fans would be able to go. plus the southern calif fans are real knowledgeable and deserve more big fights in their backyard. it’s more of a corporate crowd in the vegas casino fights. not as good.

  4. It is different Kevin, here is how.

Frankie Carbo was arrested, charged, convicted and sent to Alcatraz! — Today, nobody in Washington does a damn thing even though it is happening right out there in the open.

  5. True statement Jack. I guarantee if it was an American fighter who was getting jobbed on the scorecards it would be different, however it’s always a foreign fighter who seems to get ripped off on our shores.

  6. KP,

Nationality has nothing to do with it… Frankie Carbo was American born and he was taken down by a Kennedy… Focussed on a problem.

FOCUS has everything to do with what is wrong today, not nationality. Today, there is no focus. Nobody in Washington gives a $hit. American fighters get screwed on scorecards in this country all the time and have been screwed for decades… TEXAS alone has been a known disgrace for well over a decade. there is family involved, business collusion involved… THIS has nothing to do with a foreigner.

Sure, jerking a foreign fighter makes things easier. For OBVIOUS REASONS! But this is hardly isolated to the US. Ask any US fighter who has fought on foreign soil, especially if that foreign soil is called GERMANY. Ask Wayne Braithwaite what Italy was like (and he WON the fight with Cantatore). I get it! You get it.

This has nothing to do with nationality. This is just an Enforcement Issue that the Government has decided to ignore.
