COMMENTS

  1. Vazquez becomes another boxing champion from Puerto Rico. It is incredible how a small island with 4 million people produces such a high number of champions. No other country in the world has so many boxing champions per square mile. This is a country still devoted to boxing, and the result shows off.

  2. The way I saw Mike Jones fight against an older smaller fighter leads me to believe he has a lot of work to do. He should have been able to knock out Brussels. He hit him often enough. I think Mike Jones is like Andre Berto. Strong but with no K.O. punch and is being brought along slowly against inferior opponents.

  3. What Romero did was dirty! He should have stopped, when Mayol was moving away holding his crutches. Good thing for Romero it was ruled a no contest I think, the verdict should be a DQ. Drakulich knew that a low blow was thrown, and somehow stated “STOP” or “HALT”, Romero should have stopped right away, but I guess having a history of using banned substances maybe cluttered his senses but I think he did that on purpose because all the signs are there for him to stop: the movement of Mayol holding his cojones, and the verbal call of the ref.

As for Mayol, he’s style will not get him anywhere. He throws the 1-2 and thrusts his body forward and when he misses, he always puts himself in a predicament of being countered, or suffer cuts to him and his opponent. He relies to much on his power, he can do that against B-Level opponents before, but if you’re up against world champions and elite fighters, you can do that, but don’t expect to get away from it just like that. Manny Pacquiao knew this after Pac-EM I and Pac-JMM I. Mayol should have known this after the Kyowa fight. He doesn’t posses a granite chin to begin with, the trainers should put emphasis on his defense. The power will always be there for him. But I guess old habits die hard indeed.

  4. Mayol has always got headbutt issues because of his style. Didn’t like it when it happened twice with Calderon. The guy should change, because it’s dangerous for his opponents.

Vasquez Jr looks like the real deal. Would like to see more of his fights. Sonsona is an undisciplined fighter who was shown to be way over his head.

Kendall Holt – what went wrong, man?

  5. The Escalante / Roman fight was a real war. I didn’t think EScaleante had the stamina for the pace that he set, but he went the distance. Great fight.

What’s up with “Rated R” Holt?
