REVERED ECOLOGICAL & ENVIRONMENT LAWYER

Seattle, WA- John Arum, 49, the son of boxing promoter Bob Arum was found dead yesterday on a mountainside by searchers that had been looking for the renowned Seattle based Environmental attorney since Sunday when he was reported missing. He had apparently fallen to his death. As of today at 5:00 PT (local time) the body had yet to be removed from the scene.

JOHN ARUM WAS ABOUT PEOPLE & NATURE

The environmental positions John took often had him at odds with government officials. According to the Seattle Times, “Arum was instrumental in achieving a landmark water agreement in 2007 that ended six years of negotiations between environmentalists and eastern Washington farmers.”

GOT TO FEEL FOR ARUM & FAMILY

A National Park Service helicopter spotted Arum Friday afternoon at about the 7,700-foot level on the north face of 8,500-foot Storm King Mountain. Personally, and especially from a parent’s perspective, I was hoping John’s vast outdoor experience would result in a happy end to this ordeal. If anybody had the wherewithal to survive in this situation, it was John Arum.

THE KID SKIPPED TO HIS OWN BEAT!

Those of us that have been in this business prior to email, we all knew Arum’s son John was of a different breed. With Bob Arum being a legendary Harvard educated attorney, John could have easilly followed his dad, but he instead chose the University of Washington Law School. It was his desire to scale the 100 highest mountains in Washington. Thus, as tragic as it is, John died doing something he loved. In closing, from what I’ve read John Arum was a man respected and admired by both peers and adversaries. My sincere and deepest condolences to those who will miss him.

  2. You do the Obits better than anybody. Short, concise, honest. Had to look up “Mensch” which turns out to be Yiddish for “Good Man.” Well done.

  4. It seems like the son was twice the man his father is. He was helping people, instead of stealing from people with garbage PPV fights, but that is the business of boxing in today world and Bob Arum is not the exception to the rule. The problem I have with Bob is that he is the most powerful man in boxing and he could help make the sport better, but instead chooses money and the status quo.

His son chooses what he believes is the right thing to do as an environmental lawyer.

He did die doing what he loved and I guess he knew the risk of mountain climbing.

  5. It matters not what you did in life BUT how you did it. The only Fatherly footsteps we need to follow in life are those of our Lord. John Arum is in the arms of our Father, passing during his love of life, may you RIP. My heart is with the family and friends during this very hard time. Pedro, thanks for being kind, as that is a bit out of character for you. Job well done, this time………
