San Francisco, CA- Having met the now infamous Victor Conte of BALCO Labs some 30+ years ago, one could have never envisioned the then Tower Of Power bass player could one day become the mad scientist of (sports) performance enhancement drugs. It was Conte’s concoctions, the Clear & the Crème, these were the steroids that got track’s Marion Jones stripped of her Olympic Gold medals.

These were the same items I accused Shane Mosley of using for his 2003 rematch with Oscar De La Hoya. After Shane and his attorney called me a liar and threatened to make my life hell in court with the seven foot Judd Burstein threatening multiple lawsuits. Sticking to my guns, Shane would admit such after Sports Illustrated ran the same story I had went with years earlier.
BOXING SHOULD GET OUT IN FRONT OF STORY
All of this talk of performance enhancing drugs, PEOs, Steroids, Blood Doping, comes at a good time for boxing. For if boxing were to lead the way with state of the art drug testing during training, it could get out in front of this story as it is the only boxing story people, especially mainstream media, are hearing and or talking about.

Conte, who has indicated he would love to be the Steroid Czar, needs to be looked at in the same vein as the former computer hackers, as an asset. His potions got by the US Anti Doping agency for the 2000 Olympic games. In closing, it is q quite possible that Victor is the only guy, convicted felon or not, at making things right in sports in general, not just boxing. To not recognize such would be an indication all eight cylinders are not firing.

Sorry but IMHO since he is a covicted felon he shoudn’t be given the opportunity to make money for what he was basically convcted of. If in the past he was part of the problem then he shouldn’t be part of the solution even if he is maybe the best person for it.

wow……….never imagined victor conte was a musician and a a member of TofP. Im from the philipppines and all this talk of pacman using steroids have galvanized us pinoys to support the p4p king. It was very surprising that mr. conte got involved in steroid testing. Is he a scientist or a doctor?………. nonetheless, the tower of power was a big hit here in the philippines during the early 80’s (may big fave is dont change horses in the middle of the street). The recent article by Maxboxing in which Conti explained how certain substance use can be detected was an eye opener . He seems to be a resource for detecting abuse that cannot be denied and i am sure the Mayweater camp is aware of this. It seems to me that Arum and his client Pacquiao are ego tripping and playing the brinkmanship game or they have something to hide.In other words we are not going to let Mayweather do what he wants to do regardless.First thy agree to testing but when a more rigorous method is mentioned they are upset and want to sue.Now arum wants to get his legal cronies involved in what appears frivilous and arrogant egoism. As far as I’m concerned, these are the FACTS I’ve found through research regarding the issue:
1. Manny passed ALL the tests performed in all his fights;
2. Floydjr cheated by weighing 2 lbs heavier vs Marquez;
3. FloydSr is a crackhead, a criminal and a liar;
4. Manny agreed to 3 blood tests: at presscon, 30days before the fight, and right after the fight;
5. Floydjr fans believes in a crackhead, criminal and a liar;
6. USAD’s Tygart is Dela Hoya’s friend;
7. USAD is for amateur competitions;
8. USAD’s random tests can be manipulated to harass any athletes;
9. Dela Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions tried to buy Pacquiao by handing him $250k which Manny refused;
10. Dela Hoya’s legacy was tarnished by Pacquiao’s demolition job, hence ODLH rooting for Hatton and Cotto and, presently, guess who? Of course, Mayweather Jr.
Anyone in his right mind would first gather ALL the information from CREDIBLE sources. Be extensive in assessment, microscopic in analysis and logical in evaluation.
Or else it’s all just plain stupidity.
With that logic, the ex-convict in my hood served 20yrs would make the best jail warden and the a gang boss would make the best police commissioner.
In my opinion, I do not think Paquaio is on steroids or has ever been. It’s natural growth from where he started to where he is now. At first I thought, why the hell is Paquaio making such a big deal about this. Sign it and get it done. Now, however my thoughts are on Mayweather and how bad him and his entire family is for boxing. The guy refuses to fight anyone legit since 2002 and was the pound for pound champ basically just collecting paydays and not giving the fans the fights they wanted to see. Along comes Paquaio who does amazing things and faces the best that are out there and somehow Mayweather shits on his parade by making stupid accusations where there was no proof what so ever. Mayweather as much as he thinks he is boxing, in my eyes he’s completely ruining it. He should realize he’s paid to fight, not speak and its about that time he shuts up and does his job against worthy opponents. What’s truly amazing is how much richer this guy would have been if he acted like a normal human being and not an immature egotistical moron.
I understand from Pac team is comming from. But the stipulation is for BOTH fighters taking the aformentioned tests and therefore it is not in any fighter’s advantage in doing so. The refusal by Pac could be seen as if it is something to hide because, AGAIN the tests are for both. If Pac is really concerned about his strengh being affected coming fight time that is his right to feel that way. Furthermore the tests are above what the requirement is and the reason for Pac to refuse. But Team Mayweather agreed to the 10 mill penalty fee for overweight. For 40 million I think Pac should suck it up, take the tests, beat the crap of mAYWEATHER AND ERASED any questions about juicing thus increasing his stock.
Unless the testing becomes mandated by Professional Boxing for everyone, i don’t think Manny or anyone else should have to negotiate it in a contract to fight. Either do it for everyone, or no one. Just because you say he’s on roids, doesn’t make it true. Innocent until proven guilty?
I think the public needs to be better educated on the subject of Performance Enhancing Drugs. Victor Conte knows a lot. I’m very surprised Pacquiao is making such a fuss about this blood testing. He never makes a fuss about anything! I’ve watched sports my whole life and I’ve never seen an athlete flip out over drug testing, blood or urine! Bob Arum is a great businessman. I give him nothing but props because he is protecting his investment. Pacman is his money maker! Heck yeah he’s gonna say or do whatever to protect that. Pacquiao getting caught for being on some kinda P.E.D would be way more disastrous than him losing the fight cause if Pacman loses the fight they’re still making record millions of dollars! They’re not gonna take no chances buddy! I think Victor Conte (a P.E.D. guru) understands this.
Makes perfect sense…if Victor knows how it works then he knows how to not only test for it, but how it’s made and how it can be administered.

Nice try author. But you are wrong. Pacquiao is juicing and the Mayweather camp got it from a good source. They’ll still fight him but they want the best opportunity to catch him. Trust me. Just like Nasim Richardson got the Margarito and Trinidad tips from an inside source, the Mayweather camp got the same kinda tip. It was from a former sparring partner of Manny. That’s all I can say at this point…
I mean think about it. The guy tells you he is scared of needles but he has like 6 tattoos. Lie. Then he says taking a test so close to the fight will drain him. But if YOU WATCH Pac/Hatton 24/7, you see a guy CLEARLY GIVING HIM A NEEDLE about 2 weeks (or less) before the Hatton fight. Another lie!
So if Manny is lying to you about these two things, WHY WOULD YOU TRUST HIM? Don’t tell me cause he never got caught. Yeah, neither did Mosley or Margarito until people got the inside info. Trust me, its the SPARRING PARTNERS that will tell you. I’m not gonna tell you which one. But I’m sure it will come out.
Lastly, look for Bob Arum to apologize VERY SOON because the 24/7 tape don’t lie baby!!
I’m a fan of Tower of Power too and a musician. We use to jam and play “You’re Still A Young Man and So Very Hard To Go” but i don’t recall Victor Conte. I know Bruce Conte, the lead guitarist. Could he be his brother? Anyway, Tower of Power is very popular in the Philippines in the 70’s. Soul music had a very huge influence in my guitar playing. I’m a sucker for brasses. I can’t believe that Victor Conte was involved in steroid and a convicted felon. I hope Pacquiao-Mayweather fight materialized and resolved the problem in making the fight. Killing the March 13 megafight have a negative impact in the sport of boxing.

My only suggestion to settle this is Pacquiao offer a counterspin to the testing. If he is tested positive he pay 2 million dollar per test and if he is tested negative mayweather should pay him 5 million dollar per test. since its a random test, it may require a lot of test. Unless Mayweather agreed to this condition then go ahead and do the random test if not then don’t pursue this blood testing and sign the contract and fight Pacman. I have to agree, Pacquiao is hidding something. I hope this sparring partner could come out soon so we can see him try to get out of that one. If your clean you should just take the rando test with no prob. If he does end up fighting Paul who lost to both Cotto and Hatton would really put him in a bad spot and really question his integrity.

From what I have gathered over the years it seems that Conte is not as smart as you might think. I don’t know of any PED that he has created. From what I have read he has only used other peoples stuff. Does anyone know what effective PED he has created himself?
Lets make a proposal:
1. If Manny found using …roids, the share will be 40-60 that is Pac-Floyd ratio.
2. If Manny found using …roids, all PPV goes to Floyd.
3. If Manny is clean… 60/40, Pac/Floyd respectively.
4. IF Manny is clean… all PPV goes to him (Manny).
5. If Manny is clean… wins lawsuit another 40% goes to him.
Is that a fair folks.

There’s a dangerous precedent being set here in that Floyd’s fans are presuming guilt on the part of Pacquiao without evidence and in addition are presuming his reluctance to embrace Floyd’s proposal further signifies guilt.
What it signifies is Pacquiao isn’t letting Floyd run the show. It means that since this fight is under NSAC jurisdiction it will be fought under NSAC rules including drug testing. If Floyd wants to change that he should propose it at the next NSAC meeting, not during negotiations for the biggest fight of 2010. Why should the slanderous accusations of crackhead Floyd Sr prompt wholesale changes in the leadup to a fight? To stem paranoia? That’s not a valid reason.
As for Conte, making him of all people some type of drug tszar is ludicrous. Might as well hire the neighborhood crack dealer as a beat cop. And how about a mention of Conte’s current and past involvement with Andre Ward’s training camp? I notice Ringtalk doesn’t post my messages whenever I bring that issue up, suggesting our voice is only heard here when we agree like docile lambs. IMO, even if steroids are legalized, Pacquiao will probably not use any anyway. Too many side effects. Shrunken balls, LOL.

However I do agree that boxingstesting is prob lacking. It’s funny to read some of these silly arguments for not having blood testing. Ok, so May is accusing Pac of drug use. It happens all the time and the way to clear that is by being tested properly and not by saying I’ve never been caught or threatening with a frivolous lawsuit. The NSAC testing is as bad as baseballs use to be. In other words, it needs to be overhauled. Furthermore, Barry Bonds, Tim Montgomery, Marion Jones & a host of others never got caught. Any rational, unbiased person can see that the Pac camp is blowing smoke to cover their tracks and we all know that “where there is smoke, there is fire”. It’s quite clear by the rush of this fight that PAC will certainly retire after this and he would like to keep his good name intact. 7 division champ in this water downed era of boxing and people comparing him to Sugar Ray, Henry Armstrong etc… (Funny…Really Funny). The fight will happen because it is an easier fight than facing Mosley and Floyd knows he beats PAC on the juice or not. Don’t even get me started on Freddie Roach. I’ve lost all respect for this guy….

If Manny is scared of the needle, how come nobody has mention sample of each person’s hair.
I can understand why Pacman fans fill the way they do. However I also understand why the Mayweather team might be concerned, this guy has jump from weight class to weight class and lost no power. I remember when the Sugar man (shane) first started going up in weight, he did not carry that power. The all of a sudden he started to knock out bigger guys, and now we know why (HGH). And just think he was getting the same current testing and was not initially caught (prob on HGH when fought Oscar). If Manny gave blood 2 wks before Hatton, why not now. If this guy is that good take the test and fight. If the shoe was on other foot everyone would be saying Mayweather should take the test. Ask yourself would you take a chance to fight someone who is on juice, this is not baseball this is boxing where just the possibility of someone on juice should be looke into.
