GUILLERMO RIGONDEAUX-BOXING’S BEST PROSPECT?
February 6th, 2010 By Kevin Perry
DOES ROACH HAVE “THE GOODS” HERE?
Los Angeles, CA- 2009 “trainer of the year” Freddie Roach thinks his new charge, two-time Olympic gold-medalist and Cuban defector Guillermo Rigondeaux (5-0, 4 KOs) has the tools to beat World super bantamweight 122 lbs) Israel Vasquez (44-4, 32 KOs) right now. On the surface the notion seems like a stretch, but at 29 years of age the former amateur star should be brought along quickly. His last bout was last on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights where he disposed of the over-matched Adolfo Landeros (20-13-1, 9 KOs) 28 seconds into the fight with a perfect left to the body. Landeros lay prone on the canvas for several minutes.
WATCH THIS BODY SHOT YOURSELF!
CUBAN DEFECTOR GIVES PURSE TO HAITI
The Cuban was confident and at the same time generous as he donated his entire purse to Haitian relief efforts in the wake of the devastating earthquake that ravaged the impoverished nation weeks ago. Highly thought of by experts such as ESPN boxing analyst Teddy Atlas, the Cuban matches natural ability with ring smarts, patience and technique rarely seen in a professional prizefighter at this level. Considering that “El Chacal” (The Jackal) is one of the finest amateur boxers ever his next bout should come against a fighter with the experience to give some resistance.
STERN TEST IN EX-CHAMP MOLITOR
A good test to see how much he has developed would be against former IBF 122 lb. guy Steve Molitor. The Canadian’s only defeat is to highly avoided WBA super bantamweight king (5’11 and lanky) Celestino Caballero (33-2, 23 KOs). The Panamanian has been mentioned as a potential opponent for the Cuban by the end of the year. In the interim Molitor appears to be a good barometer of the readiness of Rigondeaux to fight at the world class level.
NO TIME TO WASTE AT 29 YEARS OF AGE!
There is no guarantee that he would beat Molitor, but Roach believes that he is that good and a risk of that magnitude would be warranted. While some prospects are protected with a number easy fights early in their career, the Cuban deserves the respect from his handlers to put him in with a better quality of opponents so he progresses properly. The age of 29 is not an ideal age to start a professional boxing career, even for a two-time Olympic king, but this is one guy to watch and should be considered at this time one of boxing’s best prospects.
Kevin Perry

Prospect? This guy is the champion uncrowned since2000. I wish Cuba and the USA resolved their differences man just look at all the talent that country has!!! And we r only swing a few of them at any given time. He is the real deal amd I think he should fight for a title now!!!!!!!! There was alot of hype around him from his first Olympic title. He is soo goog that I remember boxing experts saying he was even money with Rafael Marquez when Marquez was 118 pound champ and looking unstopable!! That says it all
Impressive body shot, but the smartest move was Landeros’. Eleven days to fill in against a guy who will take your head off. Find a soft place on the canvas and fast.
i’ve youtube his fights and he’s really impressive. he needs to be a little more aggressive though for him to make a name in the industry. i doubt he has the stamina to sustain aggressiveness. at 29, it will be hard even for freddy roach to build it up.
that was a sick body shot, yes he is ready for the top guys and time isnt on his side, he might be older than 29 as often cuban defectors lie about their age.
He is fast.
i’ve seen all of his televised fights. he’ll look even better against better fighters, b/c each time he’s just turned up the dial a notch as he’s faced better opposition.
When are these Hyped Cuban Olympian fighters going to actually start fighting fighters that are full time fighters? not these part time fighters with 12 loses? a 40 Year old Contender, or as in the Gamboa case a 126lb fighter fighting a 122lb slug. I’ve never seen a group of fighters so hyped and so pampered as these Cubans.. let them take on real opponents. Who can actually fight back like Celestino, Valero, JuanMa.. These guys are going to end up like David Reid, once they’re thrown in with a real top notch Pro fighter who can Pop, they’re going to get KnockedoutCold..
The Great Cuban Fighher is a Myth, We haven’t had a single Cuban Pro fighter who’se reached Greatness in Decades! There have been Cubans in the US for over 40 Years yet where are the Great Cuban-American fighters? They continue to live off of their Olympic Performances yet when they try to go Pro they have a dismal record.. The guy Ridgondeaux dropped had 12 losses and would’ve been equally dropped by Mia St. John… The other day the other Cuban fighter was dropped by an over the hill 40 Year old Contender Grady Brewer.. He looked terrible… a 126lb Gamboa beating up a 122lb Mitgwa was a joke.. What do you guys think a 126lb JuanMa would’ve done to a 122lb Mitgwa? after taking a pummelling in his prior fight? These Cubans are a Fraude and until they start fighting fighters who aren’t bums they will just be all the usual Smoke and Mirrors Cuban Olympians who’ve failed misserably…
Roberto Rios: “I remember boxing experts saying he was even money with Rafael Marquez when Marquez was 118 pound champ and looking unstopable!! That says it all”
That does pretty much sum it up. This guy is that good. I like how you referred to him as the uncrowned champ since 2000.
Good article KP. Molitor would be a suffecient test and I would like to see Rigondeaux step it up soon. Much props to Rigondeaux’s efforts as well in giving aid to those in need during the Haitian tragedy.
Yooooo!!!!!!!! 1200 yes bigups to rigo he gave his whole purse to haiti relief. That speaks volumes
of the person he is. And carlito I’m puerto rican I feel u r to but to downgrade these cubanos is bad. These guys r good jaunma is gonna get outclassed by gamboa!!!!! And rigo is gonna be champ in 2 to 3 fights. And Lara is no joke I don’t know who ur watching or if ur hating. But these guys bring pride to all us Latinos just for them to be here competing shows they have champions heart. Asa puerto rican I have a kindred spirit to the Cuban people god bless them and I’ll always support their fighter. And another thing what separates Cuban boxers from Cuban American boxers is the Cuban system! Cuban Americans aren’t training in that system so to say the stuff u said don’t add up
I am agree with you Roberto and its a shame how er can percibe so much hate between latinos. I like boxing and the people are watching more boxing since JuanMa, Gamboa, Rigo, the only joke is reading a guy from Puerto Rico talking so low about fellow latinos. Don’t ne afraid and you will see for yourself . PLEASE NEXT TIME BEFORE WRITING A COMMENT REVIEW AND THEN POSTED
I have never seen a group of such Over Hyped Fighters as these Cubans! NEVER being spoon fed bum after bum.. When are these guys going to fight real fighters? Who aren’t over the Hill! Part Time fighters with 12 loses or out weighing them by a whole division! Lara was rocked by an old 40 Year old Brewer, Rigideaux dropped a fighter with 12 loses! When are these guys going to fight top elite fighters? These guys will end up just like David Reid once they step in with fighters who can actually fight. The Pros aren’t the Olympics where the Cubans take advantage fighting Kids with little to no experience, These are the Pros! Yet they continue to get an EZ Pass on opponents! Lets have Gamboa, Rigideaux fight Edwin Valero! or Celestino! Lets have Lara fight anyone of the top guys at his weight! The Myth of the Great Cuban fighter is just that a Myth! They haven’t Produced a Great fighter in Decades! That lame excuse that all their Great Fighters are in Cuba is also Bull, Cubans have been living in Miami thanks to the EZ Pass to US Citizenship for over 40 Years.. Where are the Great Cuban Fighters from Miami? NONE! These Guys will soon be proven to be all hype.. just like Cassamayor never reached Greatness.. he fought dirty and Amateurish..
I have Cuban Best Friends, Black Cubans who lived in NYC and now live in Miami. They’re like my Brothers.. The issue is that White Cubans in Miami are now jumping on the Coat Tails of these Black Cubans, Products of Castros Communist Boxing Program as if it were their own? Look, no one is saying these guys have talent.. but to be hyping these guys up so much while having them fight guys of the Caliber of their recent opponents is laughable.. What’s Killing the Cubans from Castros Boxing Program is that they are too trained in the Olympian Amateur Style.. it kills them when they go Pro. What you need is to have Cubans train in the Pro Style from the onset. Puerto Ricans train from the Very Beggining in the Pro Style. They may not get as manny gold Medals but when they turn Pro they have done much better statiscally then the Cubans… You cannot Put down JuanMa for having a tough fight with Mitga at 122lbs then Applaude a 126lb Gamboa who really fought at 130lbs for beating Mitga.. If JuanMa had weighed 126lbs to fight Migwa the fight would not have been allowed to happen…
The Cuban System is to put Cubas equivelant of Pro Boxers up against our Kids.. That’s the Cuban, Russian, Chinese system.. Brazi tried that with Basketball then pissed off the US by mocking US Basketball.. Once the US OK’d allowing our Pros to Participate in the Olympics, it’s been a Joke watching our Basketball team play with Brazil.. Same thing would happen if We US and Puerto Rico sent their Pro Boxers to fight in the Olympics, It’d be a Joke…
Cubans need to stop living off of the Myth that Cubans are Great Boxers, they’re not.. simple fact no hate..
Do you know the Pro Boxing Team the US and PR could put together if they were allowed to send their Pro Boxers to the Olympics? Lites out for Cuba…
Carlito, you hit the nail on the head re” white cubans.”
I grew up I Miami and u r absolutley correct carlito that the white Cuban in Miami act like that all Latinos have blacks in their familys and culture but most of those Jack offs in Mia act like they are better. I was thinking and praying these Cuban fighters are protecting themselve from the trash and thieves in Miami. Funny thing is now they have black cubans. Those people r such di-k riders
Also carlito I see that juanmas talent and athlaetism is not on the same planter as gamboa did u see how fast and strong he was compared to how weak and slow juanma looked? I’m telling u man if that fight comes off juanma is gonna be dancing reggeton all over the ring b4 he takes his nap by round 6 to 8 tops
Castros Communist Boxing Program searches the entire country for Kids with what they perceive to be Qualities to be Olympian Boxers. 1. They must be Black and 2. They must be Black! The fact is that these hyped Cuban Amateur fighters are hand selected at a very young age and then put through a Government Paid for Boxing Program from that very young age. They have nothing else to worry about except Boxing.. They are pampered and given perks not afforded to the average poor Cuban. They then put these guys into the Olympic games to fight Kids who’ve not had any of those opportunities.. they fight Kids with little experience Boxing and then pat themselves on their backs when their Pro equivalent fighters beats on of these kids? It’s a Fraude.. What happens when these Pseudo Great Boxers take on Pros? they get their Asses kicked and go no where…
Again, Cubans have been in the United States for over 40 Years.. a few Million probably.. So where are the Great Cuban Boxers from the US? Yes, that’s Crickets you’re hearing in the background.. ZERO, NONE, Zilch! NADA..Yet there’s Plenty of Great Black, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Columbian, Fighters from the US… Why is that if Cubans are so great at Boxing? hmmmm….
Wow! That body shot was so fast, I didn’t even see it. This guy is lethal. Given his extensive amateur experience, his age, and his obvious adjustment to the pro game, there is no need to bring him along slowly. Let’s see him in big fights!
Gamboa, Lara, Rigideaux are the latest group of Black Cuban Amateur Refugees who the White Miami Cubans will try to prostitute as their own.. By hyping them up as the Mythical Great Cuban Boxers! Cuba is 90% Black 10% White, Miami is 95% White and 5% Black Cubans, see an odd imbalance there? Thats because Most Cubans are Black not White even though the Miami Cuban Community is doing everything in their power to make itself look like they’re all White.. That low percentage of Black Cubans in Miami is another reason why it’s been so hard for Cubans to produce a Great Cuban Fighter.. Bottomline is White Cubans talk a lot of DooDoo but cannot fight to save their lives…
Whiner, as much as I would love for Rigideaux Promoters to actually put him in with a fighter that actually fights for a living, not these bums His Promoter isn’t going to do it.. they are hyping these guys up and Banking on one huge Payday.. but they’re going to end up like David Reid, stretched out on the Canvas counting Canaries…
Ok carlito trust me I understand where ur coming from. But enough on the trashing other Latinos. Yes most of the Miami cubans pretend that the r white but what can u do. Only love can conquer hate!!!!!!! Hate begets hate and evil begets evil. I disagree with u this set of cubans are particularly impresive. And the credentials these guys come with r second to none. How many great American boxers were first Olympic gold medalist. Ali, Frazier, whitiker, Leonard, spinks, and rigo let me say I think his record was 243 and 4 defeats that’s not hype man! Lennox Lewis, kostya tzsu lazlo pap ect
Roberto, I hear you too, Miami White Cubans are the Cuban Versions of Guidos.. Cubans like Puerto Ricans have alot to be proud of. Tons of Sports Talent in Cuba.. My original Arguement about Cubans not being the Great Boxers they’re portrayed as still stands.. No hate, based on logic and Facts.. Cuba has instituted a State Run Boxing Program that grooms Mostly Black Cuban Kids who show potential to become Top Amateur Boxers. That Program has paid off for them.. Although it’s a bit skewed because they’re really having their equivalent of Pros fighting very inexperienced Kids.. That Amateur Style doesn’t do well in the Pros.. It’s like taking a Wrestler trained to excel in Amatuer Wrestling and putting him in the MMA Ultimate Championships.. Cuba needs to get away from focusing mainly on the Amateur Style and start focusing on the Pro Style.. That will go a long way in getting their Boxing Talent Pool to be competitive in the Pros.. These guys train in that Amateur style their entire lives and its almost impossible to get thenm to change to the Pro Style when they’re reaching 30 Years old… My anger is not at Cubans in General but those Miami Gamboa supporters who Knock JuanMa and his achievements while Praising Gamboa who’se not fought anyone of substance.. It’s all good, Hyping these guys up will increase Boxing Viewership but once these guys start Boxing Real Opponents they will start dropping like flies… You’ll see…
Take the JuanMa vs Mitga and Gamboa vs Mitga comparrison Miami Cubans are now pointing to as proof that Gamboa is the next coming of Ali? JuanMa fought Mitga weighing 122lbs.. He landed just as easily on Mitga as Gamboa did.. Gamboa weighed 126lbs against Mitga! What do you think would’ve happend to Mitga if he fought a 126lbs JuanMa? while weighing 122lbs? The fight would not have been allowed to happen… JuanMa would’ve KO’d Mitga just as fast as Gamboa did. Yet while they know full Well Gamboa had a huge Weight advantage against an already beaten up Mitga thanks to JuanMa, they are ignoring that fact and now Claiming that JuanMa is all hype while Gamboa is GREAT! LOL.. Gamboa has been floored 5 times by bums.. What do you think will happen to Gamboa when he fights the top Elite Fighters at 126lbs? or 130lbs, Gamboas true Weight Class.. Will Gamboa beat Edwin Valero? or a 126lbs JuanMa? Time will tell and they will be great fights…
Yea carlito but so
was Trinidad floored by a couple bums. I think he turned out ok. I’m telling u kid gamboa is special. He was koing fighters at 135. And like I said just the type of athlete he is compared to juanma. Juanma is much slower, punches aren’t as crisp or as powerful. And I’ll say another thing gamboa has a gas tank he isn’t gonna get tired. Trust me don’t put no money on juanma for that fight cause ur gonna loose it! And then ur gonna remember me
Roberto, when GlassJawah starts fighting fighters his weight 130lbs who can can actually fight, elite fighters, who actually fight for a living without getting floored then we can talk about him being the Next Great Trinidad.. until then he’s just another Pampered OverHyped Cuban Olympian being spoon fed bum after bum… There’s no way on earth that you can compare the fighters GlassJawah has fought to the fighters JuanMa has fought. And please do not bring up the Mitga fiasco.. GlassJawah weighed probably close to 130lbs that night against an already softened up Mitga who weighed only 122lbs…
Roberto, I actually hope Gamboa makes it, it’s good for Boxing. I have very close Black Cuban Friends who I see as Family.. My beef isn’t against Gamboa or any of the other Black Cuban Boxers out there trying to make it. My beef is against those Miami Cuban Guidos who are trying to take credit for these guys when the only credit for these guys needs to go to Castro and his Communist Government Sponsored Amateur Boxing program.. You can’t despise Castro and everything he stands for then try and benefit from these Boxers who are products of that Communist Boxing Program… My critiscism of these Cuban Amateur Olympians is that the Amateur style is too engrained in them.. It becomes a major handicap when trying to Box in the Pros… Gamboa was tagged and floored 5 times because of those Amateur habits… There are no good Cuban Boxing Trainers in Miami.. if there where we’d seen Cuban Boxers coming out of Miami making noise in Pro Boxing but we haven’t seen a single one in Decades… Gamboa and the others need to get away from these Miami leeches and get together with established Trainers and hopefully learn the Pro Boxing Style…
I agree I say gamboa would fit perfect with manny Stewart with the athlete he is manny will tighten up his skills nicley, and rigo is with roach so I think he’ll be ok I’m more worried for gamboa I don’t know who da fuc-s training him. Do u remember that 1 clown that had him licking some sponge betwen rounds? And yes u can compare mtagwa fights u can’t say mtagwa was weakened by the fight with juanma. Mtagwa was the one who finished way stronger I don’t see how he was softened up? And gamboa makes 126 so he’s good at the weight. Juanma wasn’t killing himself to make weight!! He looked the same at 126 as 122. Trust me I ash the boricua could win but he can’t. And juanmas opponents aren’t the best either who has he fought penasola a lifetime 115 pounder and de Leon slow as mollases and the last guy he fought that guy couldn’t punch his way out a paper bag. I’m a little embarased by juanma he let this guy cabballero call him a maricon!!! He should have fought that guy for free that’s not how us boricuas act!!! As a fellow boricua don’t put ur money on juanma for that fight gamboa is gonna rip off his ball play dice with them and give them back!!!!!!!
Carlito, I would have to go with JuanMa over Gamboa because I feel JuanMa has been tested more and had real opponents. His style is also more Pro then Gamboas.. but Gamboa could win it also.. My objection to this Rush to get Gamboa and JuanMa in the ring is WHY? why would you take these two great young prospects and put them in the ring together at this early stage in their Pro careers? it’s stupid.. Let Plenty of other less riskier but quality opponents out there to build their records and skills against. Let them make the most of their Careers.. then when they’ve become financially sound and cleaned up a few divisions have them fight.. rushing these guys into the ring at this stage could easily end ones career and seriously hoble the winner.. Not enough Money for them to take such a risk at this early stage in their Careers.. bring them along properly.. fighting quality opponents.. No need to have these two latinos cancel each other out.. Plenty of Blacks, Mexicans, Philipinos etc out there to fight.
Caballero is just another fighter like Margarito, Cintron, Williams fighting at lower weights trying to get an edge over naturally smaller opponents.. He’s 5″10 I can bet you he walks around near 150.. why isn’t he fighting guys his size? JuanMa and his people are too experienced to fall for those school yard taunts.. No money in Celestino.. Eventually JuanMa will continue to Rise and fighters like Celestino avoiding fighters their true size will waste away chasing smaller opponents… It was happening to Paul Williams until he moved up closer to his true Weight class. Now look at Williams having so much trouble with guys his size.. Martinez,
How can u be out of ur weightclaas if u can make the weight? If ur in the right weight then ur strong and durable if ur killing urself to make weight then u r weak and doing urself a disservice. I think u got it wrong my brother. If the guy makes the weight then that’s his class. Unless they can’t make the weight
Roberto, Margarito, Cintron, Williams, Clotey all could easily fight at Middleweights, Super Welters but chose dehydrate down to the Jr. Welterweights to take on the smaller Cottos, Mayweather, Mosleys, to have a Height, Arm Reach and Strength advantage when they put on 15+ pounds overnight as in the Margarito vs Cotto fight. Glassjawah and Celestino could also be easily fighting fighters at 140lbs yet chose to get down to 122 or 126 to take on smaller lighter opponents.. it’s done all the time, please don’t act like you’re not aware of this.. or did you start watching Boxing a few weeks ago? Glassjawah needs to take on Edwin Valero.. I could see a case for Celestino to fight JuanMa at 126lbs.. all would be great fights… and yes I agree this strategy of fighting at a lighter weight can backfire for a fighter.. Cotto started having troubles at 140 and JuanMa at 122lbs.. Lets see Rigedauex against Valero.. that would be a good fight…
Rigedauex needs to take on the fighters at 140lbs like Juan Diaz, Nate Campell, Bradely, Paul Malignagi, Hatton, Khan etc etc etc… Plenty of Comp for him, yet here he is at 29 years old taking on fighters with 12 loses who Box Part time?
Carlito ur killing me man how r u gonna say rigo should be fighting 140 I’m trying not to come down hard on u man.. The man just weighed in at 120 for his last fight at 122 how do u figure he should fight at 140 he don’t even walk around at that weight!! That’s why they have the weigh INS if the guy makes the weight that’s his class. It don’t matter if a dude is 10 feet tall of he can make 126 then that’s his class. They all cut weight not just the tall ones. Just cause ur tall don’t mean you have thick bones or dense muscle, or a large frame. When the guy can’t make the weight no matter what his body won’t do it ala jose Luis castillo, rest in peace Diego Chico corales, and then if they squeeze too much off they suffer in performance they will be much slower and weaker chin and stamina suffer. Why am I telling u this man u just gave an example of what u believe to be poor weight issues with juanma. Ur shooting urself in the foot. Come on man ur my pana don’t make me look bad. And I’m being nice if iron-hammer , or kp , or spain, boxing guru or Pedro see this ur gonna get ur azz chewed up
Roberto, Why do fighters cut weight? Why? Why put yourself through usually a greuling workout, dehydrate yourself till your nauseous? Starve yourself? Why do that? Simple answer is to drop down in weight to take on Smaller opponents you feel you will have an advantage over.. That explains why Margarito 5’10, Cintron 6′, Williams 6’2″ who all walk around at or above 180lbs kill themselves to get down to 147.. to fight guys who are 5’5″ on average like Cotto, Mayweather, Mosely.
also the fact that these guys usually are just dropping Water weight which they put on over night after the weighin getting back to over 160lbs to me is a form of Cheating. What we need is weighins just before the fight.. No logical reason why anyone would object to that unless they have an alterior motive for wanting the weighin 24 hours before the fight.. that alterior motive is their intent to put the weight back on.. Smaller fighters like Cotto, Mayweather, Mosley aren’t going to put back on 15plus pounds of water weight.. Celestino, Gamboa, Rigideaux are fighters doing the same thing at a lower weight… Even Juanma was doing this when campaigning at 122lbs.. but eventually you hit a point where this strategy will backfire on you.. and you have to move back to a weight closer to your true weight…
listen, I’m no JuanMa nutsucker. He’s a gifted young prospect but he needs to move up in weight and prove himself.. with fighters at the higher weights.. Just like Gamboa has to fight guys at higher weights who aren’t bums.. The crux of the arguement is that you cannot claim Gamboa is the Next Great thing in Boxing while critiscizing JuanMa.. Both have plenty to prove.. same goes for Rigedeaux, Lara and any of the other Cuban fighters being hyped on Smoke and Mirrors…
I Agee they should have same day weigh INS but even through same day weight INS people still drop weight. I was a 2x state chapion wrestler amd I say it all the time I didn’t like it personaly but I’d drop my 5 pounds 24 hours b4 comp time. But the funny thing is ull see the little dudes dropping the most weight iremember 1 kid that won a state title at 103 pounds the night b4 the competion started he weighed 120 pounds. So I don’t know how much impact same day weigh INS would be. Look at the ufc those lite heaveys cut from a solid 230 to get to 205 and the lower weights r worst. But yea I agree same day weigh INS would benifit the sport. But don’t hold ur breath!!
Roberto, Yes they can drop weight same day but they cannot put on 15+ lbs over night and have fighters like Cotto fighting 160+lb Middleweights like MargaCheato, lets not even get into the loaded gloves thingy. Most of these guys who do this are very weakened making those weights and have very little chance of beating their opponents in that dehydrated emaciated state.. but because they can do this the day before and then hit the all you can eat and drink Buffet for the next 24 hours get away with it.. Same day an hour before the fight Weighins is what they need. If you can’t do that then fight at your true weight… We agree brother… Good fights this weekend but I’m not paying PPV for them.. Good sparring with you..
I believe same day weigh ins were changed for safety reasons..i dont’ think they’ll bring it back..I agree with roberto though…if you can make weight, then let em fight! fighters that weight drain themselves weaken themselves in the process so even though their taking on smaller comp., i think it evens out in the end…
1200 I agree as well, if you can make the weight then that’s your weight but you have to make the weight a few hours before the Match.. as for safety concerns, there’d be no safety concern if these larger guys weren’t trying to go down in weight to take on these smaller guys. Believe me the only safety concern you have to worry about is when a 147lb fighter like Margarito shows up the next day weighing 165+lbs to fight.. Arturo Gatti killed a fighter doing just that. Plenty of fighters have been seriously hurt by fighters showing up the Next day after a weighin, a few Weight divisions above their fight. Neither Margarito or Clotely allowed themselves to be weighed prior to the ring entrance against Cotto.. Same Day weighin, if you have a hard time doing that then you’re fighting below your natural fighting weight…
The safety concern has to be on the side of the Fighter in the Ring not on the side of the idiot dehydrating down a few weight divisions trying to get an unfair advantage against a smaller fighter… The smaller fighter in the ring is at serious danger taking on a fighter that has blown up over night into another much larger fighter… it’s a form of cheating..
If it takes you 24 hours to get back into fighting shape before you can face your opponent because making that weight debilitated so badly then you really didn’t make the weight for the fight. Same day weighins an hour before the fight will clean up alot of the funny stuff going on in boxing…
Carlito before you start talking smack about cuban boxers, first do a research and learn about cuban boxing history. Let me just metion a few figthers for you, KID CHOCOLATE(1920s), KID GAVILAN, MANTEQUILLA NAPOLES, these were all world champions as profesionals. Also if you know who Teofilo Stevenson was then maybe you wont be talking so bad about boxers coming from cuba. Soon you will realized that cubans NOT JUST WHITE Cubans OR BLACK Cubans like you refered to them as have great boxing skills and you will have to eat all of your comments. In my opinion, I think that you are one of those fans that dont know anything about boxing and do not recognize real skills. No matter where you from, if you have skills and a good trainer you can be a champ. April 10, GUILLERMO RIGONDEAUX VS CELESTINO CABALLERO if you dout their talent see this figth and then talk to me if not dont even replay to these comment.
Alberto where did u hear that date is it official? Yo my heart rate is over 200 beats a min ( it’s on if that’s true!!!!!! Get Bach at me
Carlito, are u talking about gamache against gatti? i don’t remember him dying, although he seriously was hurt in that fight…fighters have been using the scales to gain an advantage against their opponants since the beginning of boxing. a dehydrated fighter puts himself at serious risk regarding brain damage and the next day weigh ins allow a fighter to hydrate properly. These guys are already taking serious blows to the head. Imagine how much more damage they suffer if not hydrated properly. Maybe they should do mandatory weigh ins the day off the fight and put a cap on how much a fighter gains?
Good idea 1200 I think they should do morning weigh in and allow 7 pounds max b4 fight time and for every pound over a point in the fight and if over by 5 and over a percentage of the purse
On the last thing I said, I meant to say “Maybe they should add a second official weigh in the day off the fight where a cap could be placed as to how much a fighter can gain the day off the fight….
Roberto the figth is schedule for April 10. Celestino Caballero promotional team already lock the fight, they are only waiting for Rigondeaux team to answer because Caballero dont want to expose his titles in that match. Hopefully Rigondeaux team wont care about Caballeros titles and still let RIGO figth that way when he beat the hell out of Caballero then everyone star taking real. But its lock on CABALLEROS part but without exposing the belts they just waiting now and it should be resolved already.
Cuban always belter than puertorican in everything, boxing, baseball, vollyball ect…..
is all abuot the money in the usa. cubanos y puerto riquenos somos hermanos arriva mi cuba linda somos pocos pero no hay quien nos pare.
Samy, resubmit please but NOT all in caps.
