GATTI’S WIFE HELD IN MURDER PROBE

SAO PAULO–The wife of former boxing champion Arturo Gatti was detained as a suspect by Brazilian authorities today following his death at a posh seaside resort.
Police said 23-year-old Amanda Rodrigues Gatti was taken into custody after contradictions in her interrogation. Gatti’s body was found early Saturday in a hotel room at the Porto de Galinhas resort in northeastern Brazil.
The former junior welterweight champion from Montreal was apparently strangled with the strap of a purse, which was found at the scene with blood stains, said Milena Saraiva, a spokeswoman for the Pernambuco state civil police. She told Associated Press that Gatti also had a head injury.
The investigation was not complete, but Saraiva said authorities were preparing to present a formal accusation against Rodrigues, who denied being involved in her husband’s death.
After the sad loss of Arguello, this death is even more dramatic. What makes this more dramatic is the fact that Gatti was murdered, at a very young age. Aguello’s was a terrible loss, but at the same time it seemed that he took his own life, at a more advanced age than Gatti.
I am shocked and sad, and at the same time, tired about the impunity of crime. Once the investigation is finished, if Gatti’s wife (maybe I should say “widow”) is found guilty, I hope that justice is done. Nevertheless, nothing is gonna change the fact that a true legend of the sport is gone. What a waste. RIP, Gatti.
Exactly as I thought. Brazilians revere sports stars far more then film or music entertainers. People like Pele, Eder Jofre, Popo, Ronaldo, can walk freely even in the hills without problems.let alone a major resort area.
This made it very unlikely that Gatti was in a fight. I lived in Brazil for almost 10 years, and am well aware of the mindset. Try to think of a sports star murderd in Brazil by other a relative. You won’t be able to
