Tommy Hearns is talking about a comeback fight. Macho Camacho has one scheduled.

And yet you're taking issue with one of the P4P top fighters in the sport?

Hopkins depends on craft as much as reflexes; Jones is all reflexes. But having said that, I can't help but feel he has a tiny chance. Hopkins won't overwhelm him with a volume of blows as did Calzaghe. But it is tiny.

Ture about Hopkins, he's been able to be competitive longer becasue he always took care of himself and the other part his proably just his because he has natural pure talent that has enabled him to stay around longer.

These other fighters who haven't had a meaningful win in a while but seem to think they are still the ones to beat and most roads lead through them are delusional.
I guess though that most of these type fighters probaly havn't done well with what money they made and have no other skills to fall back on so this may be their only choice

hopkins at least was competitive in his losses and keeps in condition. its dangerous for a guy like jones to go ahead with the hopkins fight after what just happened to him and some of the ko losses he has had the last few years. he needs to call it quits.

The sad truth people is that what got these fighters to the top is what will ultimatly be their own demise. Call it whatever you want motivation, desire, courage, or being brave its still about one thing, and that is the life.

I cant remmeber who said it, but to parapharase it goes something like this 'bravery will get you killed, but courage is being able to walk away'. Its not being a coward but any idiot can get in the ring and be brave, but get his ass handed to him. Courage is being able to pick the right fights at the right time, even if it means not fighting.

Anyway fighters are what they are, fighters, but on a more primal level, they are animals, horses, or even more brutal pieces of meat. They know it, but they cant give up the life. They crave the thirll again, and the nice paydays it can give.

As fans we can try to understand them.

True enough, Brian, but they are relevant if they have a shot at beating the younger guys. That's where the problem comes. They stick around at great peril to their aging brains and bodies, but since the talent pool is so shallow, any oldster who stays in decent shape has a crack at the big time. Not long ago guys like Archie Moore and Ray Robinson were regarded as miracle men because they were still viable in their 40s (well, Robinson was sort of viable). Kenny Lane fought even longer, but he knew to keep his ambitions small. Now, lots of guys are pushing into their 40s because they can. But the risks are still there. A tough kid, even without much talent, can do real damage. I'm afraid we haven't had the final word yet on whether Foreman stuck around too long. Ali, Frazier, and Patterson certainly did.

To go along with these type fighters you have the likes of Fres Oquendo who believes since he just won his recent bout against someone with a record of 15-18 that entitles him to a shot at one of the K brothers.

Fighters like Rahmen, Oquendo, Tony, Jones, Holyfield just aren't relevant any longer and should bow out semi gracefully if that's even possible any longer

Truly atrocious music? Let's not forget Joe Frazier and the Knockouts, Larry Holmes' dulcet tones, or Ali's earlier attempt at covering Ben E. King's "Stand by Me" (available on a CD again, together with even worse comedy routines). And then there's Sugar Ray Robinson's singing and tap dancing.

But fighters are not the only tin-eared artists. I just got an old George Maharis CD for my wife, who had a great crush on the old Route 66 star. Singing was not his strong point.
