REAL FANS SAVOR GARCIA-MATTHYSSE MATCH
New York, NY- This weekend marks a major boxing milestone as it will not only have the potential to break any and all fight records (except live attendance numbers) with headliners Floyd Mayweather and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez meeting at a catch weight of 152 lbs. This event will also feature one of the best co-main events that fans have seen in quite some time. Unbeaten light welterweight (140 lb.) champ Danny “Swift” Garcia (26-0 16 KOs ) will meet Lucas “La Maquina” (The Machine) Matthysse (34-2 32 KOs), a hard-hitting Argentinian who has gone on a wrecking ball tour through the division.
MANY THINK LUCAS WILL BEHEAD DANNY
If there were a general consensus, it’s that most boxing pundits give Garcia little chance of weathering the onslaught of Matthysse’ s mind altering fists. Considering Matthysse’ s impressive KO ratio and how he recently and recently dispatched former WBA guy Lamont Peterson in only three short rounds, it’s not out of the question that Garcia may meet a similar fate. Garcia was buzzed late by Zab Judah in his last bout and Lucas will come into this bout with something to prove, potentially making him more dangerous than ever. Garcia has a sturdy beard but has likely never faced a puncher like Matthysse.
IS MATTHYSSE A PRODUCT OF HYPE?
But, on the other hand, Matthysse doesn’t have a stellar resume if you consider how well he’s done against some of his recent high caliber opponents. With the exception of Lamont Peterson, it is pretty difficult to find a marquee or career defining win for the Argentine pugilist. Guys like Mike Dallas Jr. and Olusegun Ajose had not become world beaters by the time they met Matthysse and likely never will. And losses, albeit controversial ones, to Zab Judah and Devon Alexander certainly don’t help cement Matthysse as a legitimate threat on punching power alone. Danny Garcia will be the best 140 opponent he has yet to face and will be a more accurate measure for where he stands as a fighter.
DANNY GARCIA COULD PULL THIS OFF!
What makes this an interesting bout, is the idea that it can go either way. If Garcia can apply his boxing skills, he appears to be the likely winner and if Matthysse can land flush, Garcia will likely be horizontal moments later. Whether Garcia’s boxing skills will stand up to the Matthysse power is the million dollar question. Although it’s easy to forecast a knockout in this bout, I believe Garcia will use his skills and experience to shine in this bout. I don’t see a knockout, but think Garcia can pull of a points decision, maybe split, due to him tasting the canvas.
