TOP RANK PPV A LITTLE RANK!

Las Vegas, NV- Nonito Donaire, 115, San Leandro, CA KO 3 Manuel Vargas, 114, Jalisco, Mexico Donaire (23-1, 15. KOs) takes care of business as expected. Vargas (26-5-1, 11 KOs) a natural 108 pounder was late replacement of Gerson Guerrero, who failed an eye exam three days ago, was in preparation for a title at 108 and took his opportunity but was outgunned at 1:33 of the third.

Fernando Montiel, 118, Sinaloa, MX KO 1 Ciso Morales, 118, Misamis Oriental, Philippines. (WBO 118 lb. title) The matchmaker of Montiel (40-2-2, 30 KOs) and Morales (14-1, 8 KOs) should be arrested for assault as a left hand to Morales’ body put him down for the ten count at 2:06.

Eric Morel, 117, Madison, WI SD 12 Gerry Penalosa, 118, Manila, Philippines
(Interim WBO 118 lb. title
“Styles make fights” was in play as Morel’s (42-2, 21 KOs) style didn’t mesh at all with Penalosa’s (54-8-2, 36 KOs). Uneventful until the sixth round when two inadvertent headbutts opened two different cuts on Penalosa’s aged skin. Morel owned the first 5 rounds slightly while Penalosa came on strong with shots to the fading Morel’s body. The Filipino’s activity and aggression should have made the difference on the cards which read 115-113 and 116-112 for Morel. The final card was 115-113 in favor of Penalosa.

Bernabe Concepcion, 126, Rizal, Philippines UD 10 Mario Santiago, 126, Ponce, Puerto Rico. Concepcion (28-3-1, 15 KOs) used superior speed as well as natural boxing skill to hand Santiago (21-2-1, 14 KOs) his second loss. Santiago, down in the sixth round, dominated the ten round but it was too little too late. Scores were 98-91, 97-92 and 96-93.

  1. The ponoy power pay per view..its a shame these lil top rank cards are on pay per view whoever paid $39.99 for that crap got ripped off! Bob arum is the new don king ripping off the fans with these crap pay per view cards..he does good for boxing with his new partnership with fox and his top rank shows then does bad for boxing with these mixmatched overpriced pay per view cards ,those fights should have been on his top rank on fox channel…bob stop ripping off the fans, your an already rich old man..

  2. Bob Arum has no choice but to put these on PPV…his fighters demand to get paid and they need fights under their belt and the networks aren’t interested in lower weight fighters unless it’s a big fight. Don’t buy them! If someone decides to pay maybe they wanted to see the fights. They aren’t getting ripped off, they made an educated decision. If these fights were on HBO then I would criticize because HBO has a right to give their subscribers quality not like some of the fights we’ve been fed(such as Berto vs Urango). Arum isn’t making money on the cards so I don’t want to be too critical. Would you rather have them put these missmatches on HBO after dark? I don’t think so. I didn’t buy the fights so I have nothing to complain about. i do agree they could have been put on his fox show, however I don’t pretend to know all of the logistics here. Just be happy these weren’t forced fed to you if you subscibe to HBO.

  3. I didnt pay for that crap i jus feel bad for whoeva did pay for that and cards like this dont help the sport it just hurts it..would pay $39.99 for ponoy power?that or would rather pay $39.99 for a stacked ufc card..thats my point, this is why mma/ufc is taking over..and its sad to see cause im a diehard boxing fan but i will not shell out $40 for no ponoy power or the $50 for hopkins vs jones jr ..that battle of old legends has died and the fans has definately lost interest in that old rivalry..it shouldve happen 10yrs ago..

  4. Haven’t seen it yet but I heard Penalosa was robbed big time. Aside from boxing not having stacked ppv’s (like the ufc), these bad decisions continue to hurt the sport.

  5. I also presume Silva is heading to f**k up Sonne and we will see a million folks nut hugging Silva again. He is still the most effective within the globe even after his last fight, he is just a single weird ass fighter.
